NFL Expert Picks: Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Giants Predictions
The New York Giants finally had a breakthrough and got their first win of the 2021 season upsetting the New Orleans Saints last week. In his third year, Quarterback Daniel Jones is showing true signs of a breakout. The Giants face their biggest test of the season in Week 5 when they travel to AT&T Stadium to take on the Dallas Cowboys this coming Sunday. The Dallas Cowboys are leading the NFC East after their third straight victory, defeating the Panthers.
So can the New York Giants really make a statement two weeks in a row and cash another road upset? Or will the Dallas Cowboys roll over the Giants and continue their push to run away with the NFC East division title?
Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Giants Predictions
As I mentioned, Daniel Jones is in a possible year three breakout. For Giants fans like myself, I am skeptical but also hopeful at the same time. Jones has been much maligned to this point in his career for his inability to hold on to the football. In the Giants Week 4 upset win on the road against the Saints, Jones passed for a career-high 402 yards and added two touchdown passes. He also threw his first interception of the year but it came on a Hail Mary to end the first half. The Giants and Jones did most of their damage in the second half last week and in overtime. They come into Week 5 with plenty of momentum.
The Dallas Cowboys once again have arguably the most explosive offense in the NFL. The Cowboys weakness is its defense. They've surrendered the second-most passing yards in the NFL. Despite the Cowboys struggles on defense they are in the middle of the pack in points allowed. If it wasn't for a Tom Brady comeback in Week 1, Dallas would be sitting at 4-0. The Cowboys are the best team in the NFC East, there's no doubt in my mind, but the Giants have proven they can and will compete on a weekly basis.
As many will point to the over for this game as it's currently listed as the second-highest total of the weekend (52.5) behind only the Bills and Chiefs showdown. The over is 5-0 in the last five Dallas home games.
Only one of the Giants' four games has been decided by more than one score. With a current spread of -7.5 favoring the Cowboys, it's hard not to back a Giants cover and keep this one within a touchdown. The Cowboys have scored over 35 points in two straight games at home but the Giants have given up the fewest points so far in the NFC East.
With a healthy Saquon Barkley and Daniel Jones protecting the football, I still don't believe the Giants offense is one to trust. Despite New York being 11-1 against the spread in its last 12 games as an underdog on the road, The Giants are 2-6 against the spread facing Dallas in their last eight meetings. We need to see the Giants do it again this week before we can feel okay about backing them. I think the worst-case scenario is a push and the Cowboys win by 7. As a Giants fan, I'd love to see them cash the outright win and I'd have more confidence in them as we move deeper into the season but as a bettor, we need to make this pick with our brain.
Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Giants Pick
- Cowboys -7 (-110)
- Over 52.5 (+100)
