Looking at the Denver Broncos vs Pittsburgh Steelers Week 5 matchup. Which one of these banged-up teams comes out on top?

NFL Week 5 Picks: Denver Broncos vs. Pittsburgh Steelers Predictions

After starting the season 3-0, the Denver Broncos lost to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 4. In the process, they lost starting quarterback, Teddy Bridgewater to injury and had to go to Drew Lock who struggled, throwing for just 113 yards and an interception.

He’ll be starting again this week in place of the concussed Bridgewater against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Pittsburgh has lost three in a row and Ben Roethlisberger looks like a shell of himself at this point. Can they bounce back in Week 5 against Denver?

Denver Broncos vs. Pittsburgh Steelers Predictions

As I just mentioned, the Broncos will be without their starting quarterback, Teddy Bridgewater who was arguably playing the best football of his career before getting hurt. Instead, it will be Drew Lock going who in 18 career starts has a 78.2 rating and just 23 touchdowns to 19 interceptions.

They were averaging 25 points per game through their first three games before the injury, so it will be something to keep an eye on if Lock can get that number this week. He’s going against a defense that has struggled against the pass and done well against the run which is ironically the opposite of what Denver is good at this year.

Melvin Gordon and rookie Javonte Williams have done well, splitting carries almost evenly so far this year. But, if they want to have a chance against the Steelers, who have allowed just 396 yards on the ground and one touchdown, Lock will have to beat him with his arm.

On the other side of the field, it’s not like the Steelers have a guy who can win with his arm anymore. In three of the four games, Ben Roethlisberger has had a yards per attempt under six and he’s thrown at least one pick in three games in a row.

Through the first half of last year, the Steelers did a good job of protecting his flaws. This year, that really hasn't been the case at all. The team is sitting at 1-3 and it’s in large part due to the inabilities on offense. It’s not just Ben though.

Rookie Najee Harris is averaging just 3.4 yards per attempt and the Steelers rank dead last in the league in rushing yards and attempts. For the second year in a row, they’re operating essentially without a run game.

The Steelers are a slight favorite in this game at -0.5. It might as well be a pick-em at this point for this game. Neither team is super enticing to select here but with it being a home game for Pittsburgh and with the state of their defense, I’m leaning Pittsburgh.

I just don’t trust Drew Lock at all and if he starts turning the ball over, it could put Pittsburgh in a better chance to put up points. The total is set at 39.5, which I was considering looking at the under in this game but under 40 is just too low for me to touch.
