New York Giants vs Carolina Panthers: Will Anyone Score Points?

Has a team fallen from grace faster than the Carolina Panthers? After a 3-0 start, there was talk about considering the Carolina Panthers a playoff team. That was quickly debunked after back-to-back weeks of Sam Darnold implosions dropped them to 3-3.

The New York Giants are reeling. They’re 1-5, with the sixth-fewest points scored in the league and the fourth most points allowed in the league on their defense. Is this the week they snap their 0-3 record at home in 2021, or will Darnold and the Panthers bounce back?

New York Giants vs Carolina Panthers Predictions

One of the saving graces of the Giants through their first few games of the year was that third-year quarterback, Daniel Jones was looking steady. A concussion against Dallas in Week 5 sidelined him and then against Los Angeles he completely went off the rails.

Jones was 29 of 51 for 242 yards (4.8 yards per attempt) and four turnovers. A four turnover day is not going to help the cause as he tries to prove he’s the long-term answer. Unfortunately for Jones, his life isn’t going to get much easier on Sunday.

The Panthers are sixth in sacks this season and rank third in pressure rate. Considering the Giants' abysmal offensive line, that can’t possibly be a good sign for the Jason Garrett offense. On the other side of the equation, Sam Darnold has been abysmal of late but will the Giants be able to get pressure?

The G-Men are 27th in sacks and 20th in pressure percentage, which may allow Darnold to be a bit more comfortable after taking 12 sacks in the last three games. Still, seven turnovers in three games is still seven turnovers so it’s hard to gauge just where Sam is right now.

Head Coach, Matt Rhule pretty much said that the Panthers are going to try to get back to their running identity so expect to see a lot of Chuba Hubbard on Sunday. Luckily for Chuba, the Giants’ run defense hasn’t been very good in 2021. After finishing 10th against the run last year, Patrick Graham’s defense is now sitting at 29th in rushing yards allowed.

Looking at this one from the spread perspective, New York is just 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games. Meanwhile, Carolina is an impressive 8-1 ATS on the road in their last nine. I like the Panthers to win and cover this week. I also anticipate a low-scoring game which is good considering the line is at 44.5 for this week.

In the Giants’ last 13 games, they’ve played to the under nine times and Carolina has gone under in seven of their previous nine games. Don’t expect a lot of points, and likely anticipate some sloppy quarterback play.

New York Giants vs Carolina Panthers Picks
