Fantasy football expert Nate Hamilton shares his top starts and sits for Week 13 of the 2021 NFL season. Take a look at the players you should be high or low on this week.

Fantasy Football Week 13 Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em: Avoid Mac Jones and Other Patriots

Start and sit decisions each week in fantasy football is a challenging thing to balance. Which players you start versus who you leave on the bench will often come back to bite you.

In this weekly Start/Sit article, I aim to guide you in making those difficult decisions. Each week of football presents a whole new list of opportunities for players you may not think about starting. The same goes for higher-profile players. It may not always be sunshine and rainbows for your “every week” starters. There will be weeks that force you to make the tough choice to bench a great player.

My goal is to provide you with enough information to help you make roster decisions that you will feel confident about and have it work out for you each week.

Fantasy Football Week 13 Starts

Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles (@ New York Jets)

You may be hesitant to start Jalen Hurts after his worst performance of the season and I get it. Not only did he just throw for 129 yards and 3 interceptions, but he hurt his ankle. This is not a good thing for a mobile quarterback who hasn’t thrown over 200 yards in his last 7 of 8 games.

The New York Jets are a great matchup. They have given up the 8th most fantasy points to quarterbacks and none of them had to utilize much of a run game to succeed against them.

Jalen Hurts has practiced this week and is ready to go for Week 13. Expect him to limit his rushing, which is a negative, but it also means he’ll likely be throwing a lot more.

Additional Week 13 QB Starts

  • Carson Wentz, Indianapolis Colts (@ Houston Texans)
  • Derek Carr, Las Vegas Raiders (vs Washington Football Team)

Running Back

James Conner, Arizona Cardinals (@ Chicago Bears)

James Conner has scored a touchdown in 8 of 11 games for the Cardinals this season. It really should be no question he starts every week. He doesn’t have the greatest matchups for running backs, but that hasn’t stopped him before.

The Chicago Bears have given up the 14th fewest fantasy points to running backs. They have allowed a running back to rush for 60 yards 11 times this year. They have given up 7 rushing touchdowns to running backs.

James Conner is in for a decent workload with Chase Edmonds out for one more game.

Additional Week 13 RB Starts

  • Antonio Gibson, Washington Football Team (@ Las Vegas Raiders)
  • Jamaal Williams, Detroit Lions (vs Minnesota Vikings)

Wide Receiver

Hunter Renfrow, Las Vegas Raiders (vs Washington Football Team)

Hunter Renfrow has been a go-to target for Derek Carr all season. He’s been targeted 8 or more times in 6 of his last 8 games. Renfrow just had his first 100+ receiving yard performance last week.

The Washington Football Team has given up the 4th most fantasy points to wideouts this year. They have given up 14 touchdowns to the position.

With Darren Waller out for Week 13, Hunter Renfrow could see a season-high in targets.

Additional Week 13 WR Starts

  • DeVonta Smith, Philadelphia Eagles (@ New York Jets)
  • Christian Kirk, Arizona Cardinals (@ Chicago Bears)

Tight End

Kyle Pitts, Atlanta Falcons (vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers)

Finally, a matchup I feel confident playing Kyle Pitts in.

Pitts has been disappointing for fantasy managers this year. It’s not his fault. He’s a rookie who is adjusting to the league at one of the most volatile positions for fantasy. Expectations were set too high.

The Falcons will be up against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this week. The Buccaneers have given up the 8th most fantasy points to tight ends. Matt Ryan is limited for targets, so I anticipate he’ll try and expose a weakness in the Bucs defense and pepper Kyle Pitts with targets this week.

Additional Week 13 TE Starts

  • Noah Fant, Denver Broncos (@ Kansas City Chiefs)
  • Mike Gesicki, Miami Dolphins (vs New York Giants)

Fantasy Football Week 11 Sits

Mac Jones, New England Patriots (@ Buffalo Bills)

Hot and cold over the last 6 weeks, Mac Jones has the toughest matchup for quarterbacks this week. Although he has thrown multiple touchdowns in 2 of his last 3 games, there are plenty of examples of him throwing just 1 or fewer touchdowns in a game (7 of 12 games).

The Buffalo Bills have given up the fewest fantasy points to quarterbacks this season. They haven’t allowed a quarterback to throw multiple touchdowns in a game since Patrick Mahomes threw 2 back in Week 5. In fact, the Bills have only allowed multiple touchdown passes just twice this season.

It’s best to avoid the majority of players in this divisional matchup.

Additional Week 13 QB Sits

  • Jimmy Garoppolo, San Francisco 49ers (@ Seattle Seahawks)
  • Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks (vs San Francisco 49ers)

Running Back

James Robinson, Jacksonville Jaguars (@ Los Angeles Rams)

James Robinson rushed 17 times for 86 yards in last week’s game. A decent stat line for sure. He did score in 2 consecutive games prior to last week but wasn’t able to top 57 rush yards in either contest.

The Rams have given up the 17th most fantasy points to running backs. They’ve allowed just 2 rushing touchdowns from the position since Week 7.

Robinson doesn’t have the greatest matchup for a guy who failed to reach 30 rushing yards in 2 of his last 4 games.

Additional Week 13 RB Sits

  • Damien Harris, New England Patriots (@ Buffalo Bills)
  • Josh Jacobs, Las Vegas Raiders (vs Washington Football Team)

Wide Receiver

Jakobi Meyers, New England Patriots (@Buffalo Bills)

Jakobi Meyers has been targeted quite a bit by Mac Jones this season (90). The next closest in targets is Nelson Agholor with 54. Kendrick Bourne has been getting more attention from Jones recently.

For the same reasons I don’t like Mac Jones this week, the Buffalo Bills have given up the fewest fantasy points to wide receivers this year. They haven’t allowed a single-100+ yard game from any wideout on the season. They have allowed just 2 wide receivers to surpass 47 receiving yards since their Week 7 bye.

Meyers has just 1 touchdown on the season, so he doesn’t even offer scoring upside in a difficult matchup.

Additional Week 13 WR Sits

  • Cole Beasley, Buffalo Bills (vs New England Patriots)
  • Courtland Sutton, Denver Broncos (@ Kansas City Chiefs)

Tight End

Tyler Higbee, Los Angeles Rams (vs Jacksonville Jaguars)

Tyler Higbee has a mediocre matchup in Week 13. This may be a reason to give him a start. Don’t do it. He’s scored just 1 touchdown since Week 6 and has surpassed 50 receiving yards just twice on the season.

The Jaguars haven’t allowed a tight end to eclipse 34 receiving yards in their last 5 games.

This is an easy sit situation for Higbee managers.

Additional Week 13 TE Sits

  • Tyler Conklin, Minnesota Vikings (@ Detroit Lions)
  • Gerald Everett, Los Angeles Rams (vs San Francisco 49ers)
