Fantasy football expert Nate Hamilton shares his top starts and sits for Week 14 of the 2021 NFL season. Take a look at the players you should be high or low on this week.

Fantasy Football Week 14 Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em: Trust CEH to Have a Significant Workload

Start and sit decisions each week in fantasy football is a challenging thing to balance. Which players you start versus who you leave on the bench will often come back to bite you.

In this weekly Start/Sit article, I aim to guide you in making those difficult decisions. Each week of football presents a whole new list of opportunities for players you may not think about starting. The same goes for higher-profile players. It may not always be sunshine and rainbows for your “every week” starters. There will be weeks that force you to make the tough choice to bench a great player.

My goal is to provide you with enough information to help you make roster decisions that you will feel confident about and have it work out for you each week.

Fantasy Football Week 14 Starts

Derek Carr, Las Vegas Raiders (@ Kansas City Chiefs)

You may be hesitant to play Derek Carr this week and I get it. He’s thrown for multiple touchdowns in just 1 of his last 5 games and was just held without a touchdown against the Washington Football Team last week.

This week, Carr faces a division rival in the Kansas City Chiefs who have given up the 7th most fantasy points to quarterbacks. They have allowed multiple touchdown passes from opposing quarterbacks 5 times this year. One of them is Derek Carr in Week 10. Carr is familiar with this team and might even have Darren Waller back to help pad his stats.

Additional Week 14 QB Starts

  • Cam Newton, (vs Atlanta Falcons)
  • Taysom Hill, New Orleans Saints (@ New York Jets)

Running Back

Clyde Edwards-Helaire (vs Las Vegas Raiders)

This running back is not someone I typically promote in a positive light. This week just feels different. Clyde Edwards-Helaire will face the Raiders’ defense who have given up the 5th most fantasy points to running backs.

The Chiefs do not need production from their backfield to win football games. This is the key reason I avoided Edwards-Helaire in fantasy drafts. That said, I do believe the Chiefs gain a comfortable lead and give CEH a significant workload this week.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire has totaled 26 carries for 117 yards and a touchdown in his last 2 games.

Additional Week 14 RB Starts

  • Devonta Freeman, Baltimore Ravens (@ Cleveland Browns)
  • Melvin Gordon, Denver Broncos (vs Detroit Lions)

Wide Receiver

Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, Tennessee Titans (vs Jacksonville Jaguars)

Who? Exactly. Nick Westbrook-Ikhine has been Ryan Tannehill’s only legitimate target recently. In his last 2 games, Westbrook-Ikhine has totaled 9 catches on 15 targets for 132 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Although I don’t anticipate Tannehill having a great week, he will throw enough to Nick Westbrook-Ikhine to give the wideout fantasy value.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have given up the 8th most fantasy points to wide receivers.

Additional Week 14 WR Starts

  • Darnell Mooney, Chicago Bears (@ Green Bay Packers)
  • Russell Gage, Atlanta Falcons (@ Carolina Panthers)

Tight End

Dalton Schultz, Dallas Cowboys (@ Washington Football Team)

I’m expecting this game to be a gritty divisional matchup. This often bodes well for the tight end position. Dalton Schultz has been one of the most consistent options at the position this year.

Schultz has been targeted 5 or more times in all but 3 games this season. He has the 7th most targets among tight ends and 9th most receiving yards.

Washington has been mediocre against tight ends and will have their hands full with Amari Cooper, CeeDee Lamb, and Michael Gallup.

Additional Week 14 TE Starts

  • Kyle Pitts, Atlanta Falcons (@ Carolina Panthers)
  • Zach Ertz, Arizona Cardinals (vs Los Angeles Rams)

Fantasy Football Week 14 Sits

Ryan Tannehill, Tennessee Titans (vs Jacksonville Jaguars)

Ryan Tannehill is just not who we all expected to be this season. He has thrown multiple touchdowns just twice this season (Weeks 3 & 8) and both times he also threw multiple interceptions.

The Titans have been decimated with injuries to key offensive players, so it isn’t all his fault. As I mentioned, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine will be his top target this week. There isn’t much you can do when that is your best bet at the wide receiver position.

Although the Jaguars aren’t a top defense against quarterbacks, they have done enough to show they can limit Tannehill this week.

Additional Week 14 QB Sits

  • Taylor Heinicke, Washington Football Team (vs Dallas Cowboys)
  • Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons (@ Carolina Panthers)

Running Back

Chase Edmonds, Arizona Cardinals (vs Los Angeles Rams)

Fantasy managers have been itching to play Chase Edmonds again since Week 10. This isn’t the week to throw him in.

Edmonds will play in his first game since spraining his ankle. James Conner has done an amazing job for the Cardinals run game while Edmonds missed time and there is no reason to rush Edmonds into significant touches.

His matchup is a scary one as well. The Los Angeles Rams have given up the 10thfewest fantasy points to running backs this year. Keep Edmonds on the bench this week.

Additional Week 14 RB Sits

  • Tony Pollard, Dallas Cowboys (@ Washington Football Team)
  • James Robinson, Jacksonville Jaguars (@ Tennessee Titans)

Wide Receiver

Brandin Cooks, Houston Texans (vs Seattle Seahawks)

Brandin Cooks has been negatively impacted by his quarterbacks this season. He’s had better success with Davis Mills who’s expected to start Week 14 as Tyrod Taylor deals with injury. “Better success” isn’t saying much. Davis Mills is not a good NFL quarterback and will likely struggle against a difficult defense.

The Seattle Seahawks have given up the 10th fewest fantasy points to wide receivers. Brandin Cooks has scored just 3 times this year so his touchdown upside is barely something you can rely on this week.

Additional Week 14 WR Sits

  • Courtland Sutton, Denver Broncos (vs Detroit Lions)
  • Emmanuel Sanders, Buffalo Bills (@ Tampa Bay Buccaneers)

Tight End

Tyler Higbee, Los Angeles Rams (@ Arizona Cardinals)

Too often, we chase points from last week. Tyler Higbee caught 5 of 6 targets for 48 yards. Hardly something to get excited about, but it was good enough to be a top-10 fantasy performance among tight ends.

Higbee has under 50 receiving yards in 10 of 12 games this season. He has just 3 touchdowns on the year and has an awful matchup in Week 14.

The Arizona Cardinals have given up the 4th fewest fantasy points to tight ends. They’ve allowed just 1 tight end to go over 50 receiving yards and have given up just 2 touchdowns to the position all year.

Additional Week 14 TE Sits

  • Jared Cook, Los Angeles Chargers (vs New York Giants)
  • C.J. Uzomah, Cincinnati Bengals (vs San Francisco 49ers)
