Panthers vs. Falcons best player prop bet for this Sunday's NFC South matchup. NFL handicapper Josh Gayle breaks down the game and how he's betting it.

Carolina Panthers vs. Atlanta Falcons Player Prop Prediction: Give Me Moore

What's better than betting on two 5-7 divisional rivals both hoping to make cinderella runs to the postseason? I may have found something that people have been overlooking.

DJ Moore Over 54.5 receiving yards (-117)

Line Available at Barstool Sportsbook at Time of Publishing

Moore started the year on an absolute tear hitting this number in 7 of his 8. He was averaging 80.6 yards in that span and looked Pro Bowl bound. However, he has only hit this once in his next four games since then. Although that's not something you love to hear, two of the misses were against the Patriots and Cardinals, who both tank top six in fewest yards to wide receivers. The other miss was very close with 50 yards. So why am I banking on a turnaround?

We know what Moore is capable of. I mean, just last week, he had over 100 yards and is always a threat to break a big one. Cam Newton is a gifted football player, but I would argue he isn't the most gifted passer of the football. Whether or not you agree with that statement, you can't disagree that DJ Moore is now the most talented skill position player on the active team. With CMC sidelined, I see more usage going in the direction of Moore.

Without McCaffrey, we see a slight bump in Moore, who averages 72 yards per game. This is just too low of a number, and I put more stock into the hot start than the tough matchups as of late. Atlanta has a defense that strikes fear into only the Falcons fans that have to watch. Moore has already cleared this number against Atlanta this year and has hit this notoriously against them. DJ Moore has played them five times since 2019 and has hit this in every game. The guy loves beating up on his divisional rival.

This bet comes down to Cam Newton's ability to find him the ball. Chuba Hubbard is a solid backup running back, but he's far from efficient. If Atlanta puts up some early points by some chance, I see them mainly focusing on throwing the ball. Robby Anderson has been a ghost all year, CMC is out, and they haven't had a legitimate tight end option since Greg Olsen. All of this leaves Moore to be the target hog in that scenario.

Lastly, I'll assure all of you of the weather situation. At this point of the year, in each article, I will try to mention the weather so you know we're going into the game knowledgeable of snow/wind conditions. This game projects to have very low winds in the 5-6 MPH range and expects to be played in the 50's. This sounds like some pass-happy weather, especially for a game in December. We don't need a miracle here. We just need 55 yards from a guy who is more than capable.
