Thursday Night Football Prediction: Los Angeles Chargers vs. Kansas City Chiefs Best Bet

Los Angeles Chargers vs. Kansas City Chiefs Best Bet

Chargers vs. Chiefs odds

What an NFL season we have had so far. Would you believe that 24 teams have 6 or more wins right now? Looking back, this is the most ever in the NFL going into Week 15. I mean, the Dolphins even have 6 wins after a 1-7 start. This is what the NFL wanted and they got a lot of parity. Any given Sunday a team can win, and pretty much that's true as even bad teams like the Lions, Jaguars, Jets and Texans have won a few games (Texans vs. Jags this week, glad that's not the game tonight). But, tonight we have a rare Thursday night game that might be the best game of the week. It is definitely better than the Sunday and Monday night games.

What makes it so good? Well, this game is technically for the AFC West division crown. KC wins and they have a 2-game lead with 3 to play (wrap that up). But, if the Chargers win they have the same record as KC and would have beaten them twice, so they'd really have a one-game lead. That would make things interesting the last 3 weeks of the season. We like interesting, and so does the NFL, which is why we are going the way of the dog on TNF.

COVID is back and it's impacting the NFL this week more than it has all year. Both teams are affected with COVID and will be missing key guys tonight, but none are more important than DT Chris Jones for the Chiefs. You’re talking about inside dominance. “It’s going to be a big challenge to replace him,” said Tyrann Mathieu.

He has been the key to the success of the defense recently and with him out, we feel this will affect the defense as guys will have to move around. When you are playing a high-powered offense and a division rival, that is not something you want. The Chiefs are also missing WR Josh Gordon, who was finally getting into the flow and got a touchdown last week. LB Willie Ga is out in addition CB L'Jarius Sneed, who is missing the game due to the death of his brother.

The Chargers are going to be without OT Rashawn Slater, who has played well as a rookie, only allowing 17 QB pressures this year. But, WR Keenan Allen is supposed to be back from his week of COVID, but you never know how much playing time he will get.

As we mentioned earlier, if the Chargers win then they sweep the series and even though KC outplayed them in the first game, the Chargers scored the final 9 points in the last 2 minutes to win the game.

Justin Herbert has become Mr. Primetime as he's thrown for 1,182 yards, 12 touchdowns and only 1 interception in his 4 primetime games (in 3 games versus KC he has thrown 8 touchdowns and 1 interception only). He's also the first QB in NFL history to throw for 30-plus touchdowns in his first 2 years. (was shocked that Dan Marino hadn't done it, even though he did throw for 68 in his first 2 years).

With Allen back, Mike Williams and Austin Ekeler, the Chargers' offense will continue to thrive as they have recently, scoring 37,41,41 in 3 of their last 4 games. KC has been led by their defense, which has been amazing, holding Dallas, Denver, Las Vegas all to just 9 points (don't think I have ever seen a team give up 9 points 3 games in a row) as well as Green Bay to a season-low 7 (how did the Giants score 17 against them is the real question).

As we mentioned, missing all the defensive parts that they are tonight will affect KC in stopping or attempting to stop an offense averaging 385 yards a game. KC got Clyde Edwards-Helaire back and has been running the ball more. They'll get there's against the Chargers but if they get into a shootout we feel the Chargers will win this game.

Remember one thing, you are never as good as you think you are in the NFL. KC beat Las Vegas by a record margin, yet that game was over before it started with the disrespect before the game (stomping on the logo) and the fact Josh Jacobs fumbled and the Raiders never got it together after that.

We have a lot of numbers that are good for the Chargers and bad for the Chiefs and honestly, people are talking Brady and Rodgers but if Herbert wins this game he is right there in the MVP race (3,822 yards 30-11 TD-INT ratio).

I don't know what it is, but the Chargers have always been a great December team, going back to the LT days, and currently are 5-0 ATS the last 5 times they played in December.

In conclusion, the Chargers' offense has been hot as we have mentioned and the Chiefs offense has been very inconsistent. Pair that with the Chiefs defense missing what we feel might be their queen if this was chess, and a few other key pieces this game is the Chargers to lose and if they do we are still getting 3 points. Take the Chargers and the generous points as we feel they win and keep things interesting in the AFC West for a few more weeks.
