The Los Angeles Chargers will try to better their playoff position by taking advantage of a matchup with the Houston Texans. How should we bet it? NFL handicapper Matt McCuen takes a look.

Houston Texans vs. Los Angeles Chargers Prediction: Is the Total Too Generous?

It is time for another NFL bet.

This time we will be looking at an AFC showdown between the playoff-hopeful Los Angeles Chargers and the struggling Houston Texans.

The Texan's season has become a lost cause. Starting with a wild off-season that saw star quarterback Deshaun Watson face legal troubles. The Texans just never had much of a shot this season and will quickly look to rebuild through the NFL draft this season. The Chargers, on the flip side, have had a solid season seeing themselves right in the thick of things for a playoff position.

The head of the train this season has been a standout quarterback in the form of Justin Herbert. The Oregon alumni has been outstanding all year and is a bright spot for the future of this Chargers team. This will be a significant game for the Chargers playoff hopes as they will need to win this game against a poor Texans team. The Chargers are coming off one of their worst losses all season, blowing a divisional game against the Kansas City Chiefs that likely killed their chances of winning the division. A hot topic of the week was the coaching decisions made by going for multiple fourth downs in the red zone in the loss. This is a game the chargers win nine times out of 10, but they will have to bounce back in this game.

The play I am looking at in this football game will be the under sitting at 46 on the dot. I question the offense that the Texans will be able to provide as they have sat as a bottom-five team all season in almost any major statistical category. The pace that the Chargers will be able to play in the second half will support this number, as well. I see the game script flip into a Chargers blowout that will allow them to milk the clock often in the second half. The Texans simply have not been able to score enough points to concern me about this total, and the Chargers defense will be well prepared for this game.

Davis Mills is coming off a solid game against the Jags, but I think we know his ceiling is not very high, and I trust the defense of the Chargers to get it done here this weekend. I think this will be a game that just flies under not only the full game, but I also believe a first half under is a solid look in this football game. The number here is too high for me as I have this number closer to 40 or 40.5. We are almost getting a full touchdown better than what I think the number should be here.

The pace will be key in this one, so keep an eye on the game script. If we get a sizable win by the Chargers, as I expect, then we will see a ton of running from Los Angeles second half. Let’s cash in on another under here in this game and stay hot!
