Dallas Cowboys vs Washington Football Team SNF Best Bet: A Defensive Struggle?

The NFC least is what it has been lately.  This division has been pretty bad for a long time.  Tonight, the Dallas Cowboys have a chance to finally clinch a playoff spot as they face the WFT, a team they just beat a few weeks ago 27 to 20 in Washington. We remember that game well as there was a lot of late line movement on the Cowboys and we ended up taking the WFT plus the seven we got the lucky push.

The question as it has been for the last week or two is who is and who isn’t playing.  The most important question is who is playing quarterback for the WFT after they started journeyman Garett Gilbert last week?  Washington has activated and announced that Taylor Heinicke is back and will be starting which is huge as well as the fact that both backups will be available tonight as well.  Just as important, wide receiver Terry McLaurin is back as he leads the team in receiving.  A huge loss for the Dallas Cowboys will be that they are missing left tackle Tyron Smith who is a huge part of the line allowing all those holes for Elliott and Pollard to run through.

All of that is great but what is happening today?  Let's look at the first matchup first.  The Cowboys were blowing them out, it was 24 to zero and then the WFT got back into the game as the Cowboys got very sloppy late.  Both defenses played very well as they had a total of nine sacks in the game.  Both passing defenses played great as combined the teams only had 325 yards passing.  So you see a game with 47 points the last time but we had two defensive touchdowns.  We just don’t see that happening again tonight. The last game should’ve been closer to 34 points and that is what we are expecting tonight, a lower scoring game as there is so much on the line for both teams if the WFT loses they can pretty much forget about the playoffs while the Cowboys understand if they win the East is theirs and then they will be playing for a lot more next week against Arizona.

I would believe that a lot of you don’t know that the Dallas defense is the number one defense for turnovers this season. They are also number seven in points allowed giving up only 21 points a game.  The Cowboys offense has been very good but we feel in this divisional game scoring will not be that easy especially when Dak Prescott has been awful the last few weeks. You want proof? How about five touchdowns in five games when he had 20 touchdowns in the first eight games.  Looking at some numbers as well we see that the WFT has gone under six out of their last seven December games, while the Dallas Cowboys have gone under in their last five games against the NFC and their last five games after they won their previous game which they did against the Giants. Ever since the Vikings game on Halloween, the Cowboys have actually gone under every game except for an overtime thriller against the Raiders. As for the WFT, they haven't scored 21 in a month (17, 20, 17, 17) while on the road there last 5 they scored 17, 17, 27, 10, 10 (an average of 16.2 points) they are still missing JD Mckissic who has been a great dual-threat running back. Antonio Gibson isn’t 100%, and that's even if he plays as well.

Heinicke is back but how healthy could he be? This guy has been beat up as he's been sacked 19 times in his last six starts (four the last time against Dallas). If the Cowboys do take a huge lead this time we feel Pollard and Elliot will be running the ball a lot more leaving the chance of an amazing comeback a lot less likely. The total is 47 and we are expecting a game in the high 30's tonight. Take the under again in matchup number two and watch the defenses control the game again.
