Having not won a playoff game prior to this season since 1990, I think it’s safe to say a few (if any) outside of Eastern Ohio predicted they would get to this game. And despite head coach Zac Taylor insisting “it’s not really a surprise to us”, I find it hard to believe.
Even still, here we are, and led by the most electric young duo in the league in second-year QB Joe Burrow and Offensive Rookie of the Year Ja’Marr Chase, who knows what could happen. While I’m not counting them out, I do expect them to at least be playing from behind.
Not only do the Rams have the edge at nearly every skill position and coaching box, but the experience of being in this game just two years ago can’t be overlooked. Not only are they back, but they’re back with an elite quarterback in Matthew Stafford who finished the regular season just shy of 5,000 yards (4,886) while throwing for 41 touchdowns.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Bengals will also have to account for one of the most feared pass rushers in the history of the game in Aaron Donald, whose ability to cause harm will require double-teams all night from an already dicey Bengals offensive line. While I’d never count out the sauce of “Joey Cool”, I think a late rally will be needed and a Bengals touchdown as either time expires or before an onside kick to end is how this one plays out.
