The Kansas City Chiefs take on the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1. Kade Kimbel expects this one to be a shootout. Will the Chiefs come out on top or will we see the Cardinals pull off an upset?
ANALYSIS

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Arizona Cardinals Prediction, Pick, Odds: Can Patrick Mahomes Win in a Shootout?

The Kansas City Chiefs, who finished just one overtime away from the Super Bowl, are looking to return to Super Bowl level contention. The Cardinals, on the other hand, will be trying to get the gross taste out of their mouths regarding the finish they had to last season.

It’s hard to determine who will have the advantage here, but considering the Cardinals will be playing without Deandre Hopkins, who has a six-game suspension, an early look determines the Chiefs may own the advantage.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Arizona Cardinals Prediction

The Chiefs lost a huge weapon in Tyreek Hill, who took his talents to south beach. Without Hill, who played an integral role in one of the greatest games I’ve ever seen last year, Patrick Mahomes will have to look to his other weapons in Week 1.

The additions of Juju Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valding-Scantling, on top of Travis Kelce leaves Mahomes with plenty of options to find downfield.

The Cardinals main losses were Christian Kirk and Chandler Jones. Kirk went and got paid and Jones is now in a position to play with a very solid defense, and leaves the Cardinals a little worse than last season. Kyler Murray is an insane and versatile talent, as he’s able to sling the ball while being one of the best mobile quarterbacks the game has to offer.

Because both teams took a slight step back, I suspect this game will be incredibly close, and a high-scoring affair.

If I’m betting on this game, I’m likely taking the Chiefs with the moneyline, because I simply don’t trust the Chiefs with the spread being -3.5. There’s a world where one of the teams wins by a last-second field goal after plenty of touchdowns have been scored. The moneyline is set at -198 for the Chiefs.

Throughout the season, the Chiefs might be a big-time moneyline team, as they might be taking quite a few of their wins as a close game, and the spread may not always be covered in their wins.
