New York Jets vs. Baltimore Ravens Prediction, Pick, and Odds: Can Sauce Gardner and the Jets Pull the Upset?

Week 1 of the NFL season is upon us and an AFC matchup to keep an eye on is the New York Jets vs. Baltimore Ravens. Expectations are high for the Ravens who missed out on the playoffs after losing Lamar Jackson midseason in 2021.

Will they be able to live up to the hype this year and get off on the right foot or instead will we see the New York Jets, a team on the rise with young talent, pull off the massive upset in Week 1?

Here's a look at my prediction, pick, and odds for the New York Jets vs. Baltimore Ravens Week 1 matchup.

New York Jets vs. Baltimore Ravens Prediction

This is a huge year for the Baltimore Ravens. Injuries derailed their season in 2021 and after starting an impressive 8-3, they would lose six straight games and fall out of a playoff spot. Will they be able to bounce back?

They are the favorites to win their division and for good reason. No disrespect to the Cincinnati Bengals but this Ravens team is deep after a stellar 2022 NFL draft. Plus, you have Lamar Jackson motivated as he's playing for a new contract.

Heading into this game they are a touchdown favorite against the Jets who struggled going 4-12 last year. Gang Green looks different though with Sauce Gardner, Garrett Wilson, Jermaine Johnson, and Breece Hall all selected in the top-40 of the NFL Draft.

That doesn't include free-agent additions like Laken Tomlinson, Jordan Whitehead, CJ Uzomah, Tyler Conklin, and DJ Reed. The moral of the story is this Jets team isn't the same one we were used to seeing get torched in 2021.

Jets quarterback, Zach Wilson's status is up in the air for Week 1 as he recovers from his knee injury sustained in the preseason. If he's unable to go, Joe Flacco is expected to start.

A revenge game for ELITE, Joe Flacco? My guess would be the Jets don't ask him to do too much and they will try to run the ball a ton against a Ravens team that also likes to run.

For Baltimore, this Jets defense was ranked 29th in rushing yards against and 32nd in rushing touchdowns against. Sure, they have some new pieces but the Jets defense has a lot to prove.

With all the running that is projected in this game, the seven-point spread seems too high. I don't have enough guts to take the Jets on the moneyline in this spot but I think they do enough to keep it a one-score game.
