Quarterback Russell Wilson makes his highly anticipated return to Seattle on Monday night when the Broncos battle the Seahawks. Wilson spent a decade under center with Seattle winning the Super Bowl in 2014. The nerves will be high for Wilson and I'm sure the emotions will be flowing. The Broncos offense is set to explode this season with Wilson while the Seahawks are projected to struggle quite a bit with veteran journeyman Geno Smith slated to be the starting quarterback.
Many people will want to place a wager on one of the Bronco running backs Javonte Williams or Melvin Gordon. I've done some digging on the topic. Last season it was a near-even split between both Javonte and Melvin Gordon. Both received 203 carries and Javonte averaged 3.11 targets per game, while Melvin Gordon averaged 2.37 targets per game. This is what new Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett said just this week on the running back split between Javonte Williams and Melvin Gordon, "I've always been a true believer in you want to roll with the hot hand. One guy gets going, you want to be sure to keep feeding that person. But I think they're going to be great compliments to each other." Just two weeks ago this is what Gordon said in regards to the new coaching staff and how it's leaning toward Williams getting a more prominent role in his second year. "I think they have a plan on what they want heading in, but as far as the rotation goes, I really don't know. I think they want Vonte to be the guy, but we do rotate. He'll take the first series and then the second series, I'll take." While I lean towards Javonte in this gushy matchup I need to see it first before putting my money on it.
I've preached being cautious with your bets as we enter the season as it will take a couple of weeks before we can make the most informed decisions. Our analysis was very strong on Sunday but a string of bad luck cost us a couple of wins. The good news is, I've narrowed down the best options for anytime touchdown scorers for you here on Monday Night Football. Let's get to the best anytime touchdown picks for the Seahawks vs. Broncos. MNF Seahawks vs. Broncos Best Anytime TD Scorer Picks
Albert Okwuegbunam (+260) (Bet $100 to Win $260)
Big AL! This guy is an athletic freak. Hiding behind Noah Fant and poor quarterback play the last two seasons, the 2020 fourth-round pick should have a big year as the Broncos top tight end. Seattle will have a new look defense but Albert "O" and his size and speed will be a mismatch nightmare for the Seattle safeties. Head coach Nathaniel Hackett is coming from the Packers where he was the offensive coordinator the last three seasons. Tight ends haven't necessarily been the focal point of his offenses but they have produced. Granted with Aaron Rodgers at the helm it's easy for pass catchers to score on occasion, even the ones receiving fewer targets. In 2020, the tight end position was utilized heavily in the red zone in Hackett's offense accounting for 16 touchdowns. Last season the Seattle defense was tied for the seventh most receptions to tight ends and was tied for the fourth-most touchdowns to the position. With the loss of Bobby Wagner at linebacker Albert O has a real chance to be a difference-maker tonight.
Courtland Sutton (+165) (Bet $100 to Win $165)
Jerry Jeudy (+145) (Bet $100 to Win $145)
Wilson forced his way out of Seattle and despite producing year after year, I'm sure he will be greeted with a shower of boos from the twelves. Russell Wilson will be just as motivated as anyone this season to prove he is still an elite quarterback in the NFL. That motivation will come to fruition in Week 1 against his former team when he looks to put it to them. The revenge game is real and it will be in full effect tonight.
The Seahawks allowed the second most passing yards last season in the NFL. Former first-round pick Jerry Jeudy has a lot to prove this year and as an elite route runner, he will have the opportunity to do so with Wilson throwing him the ball. Seattle's offensive line is once again a glaring weakness and Geno Smith will struggle under pressure. The Broncos pass rush has a real chance to do damage this season led by Bradley Chubb. The Denver secondary is borderline elite led by Justin Simmons and Patrick Surtain. The Broncos offensive line is top ten in pass-blocking and Wilson should be able to dominate. The game flow should be controlled by the Broncos leading to multiple scoring opportunities for Denver tonight.
Courtland Sutton is set up to be Wilson's top red zone target this season. Starting tonight! Seattle will likely be without Artie Burns at corner and be forced to throw out a combination of Sydney Jones, fifth-round rookie Tariq Woolen, and veteran journeyman Mike Jackson. Seattle and Pete Carroll have an identical defensive scheme over the last decade and no one is better prepared to carve it up than Russell Wilson. Wilson has a tendency to dominate in primetime going 29-11-1 during his tenure with the Seahawks while throwing 78 touchdowns in those 41 games. Let's cash all three of these Broncos tonight.
