Indianapolis Colts vs. Jacksonville Jaguars prediction
After tying in their first game against the Houston Texans, the Colts ought to come into this game with a fire lit. Of course, it was Week One and it could have been a game where the starters were hitting stride, but tying with the Texans feels like a loss for the Colts. They only scored 20 points against a lesser defense in the NFL. If they weren’t able to find their balance and offensive game against the Texans, how will they be able to against the Jaguars? Maybe it was a Week One fluke, and I need to cut them some slack. They’ll be able to pick up the yards, but they’ll have to protect the ball and turn their long drives into touchdowns.
Between their final game of the last season, and their first of this season, the Colts are either going to have to pick up their play big time, or look forward to some big changes. They’re going to have to take a step forward as a team before too long if they want to dominate their division and make the playoffs. A good step forward would be to beat
For the Jaguars, they lost a close matchup with the Washington Commanders in a 28-22 game. While they lost, they put up nearly 400 yards overall, whereas 275 yards came from Trevor Lawrence. They’ll have to find a way to stop the Colts’ biggest weapons in Jonathan Taylor and Michael Pittman Jr.
Both teams have improved their rosters since last season. Again, the Colts are not a bad team, they just can’t seem to get over the hump. Matt Ryan had a solid debut. Pittman Jr. had 120+ receiving yards and Jonathan Taylor looked like an MVP candidate.
The game will likely be an offensive shootout. I expect both teams to put plenty of points on the board, and that helps me take the over on 47 total points.
The yards will be there, and I’m not sure both teams have a defense to disrupt an offensive shootout.
The Colts -4 isn’t a bad pick by any means, but it doesn’t feel safe considering their track record heading to Jacksonville, and coming off a tie game. It feels as if they’re just a few dropped passes and a missed field goal away from losing to the Jaguars though. They also waived Rodrigo Blankenship after a rough week. It’s hard to imagine the Colts will find consistency in that department before next week. Because the win for either team doesn’t feel secure, the safest bet is the over on total points.
