Week 2 of the NFL season kicks off with an absolute booming matchup between AFC hopefuls. Finding value in the anytime touchdown market in a matchup between Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert is quite difficult. With the highest projected total of Week 2 by a fair margin, this game should, and will produce touchdowns. The last five times the Chiefs and Chargers have faced off the totals have been 62, 54, 59, 52, and 43. As a result, I'm riding with the rare four anytime touchdown picks for this matchup. We sit up just over 1 Unit as we enter Week 2. Let's build on that starting tomorrow night and never look back!

I've narrowed down the best options for anytime touchdown scorers for you here on Thursday Night Football. Let's get to the best anytime touchdown picks for the Chiefs vs. Chargers. Best of luck if you tail!

TNF Chiefs vs. Chargers Best Anytime TD Scorer Picks

Mike Williams (+162) (Bet $100 to Win $162)

*Odds Available at Bet365*

In three career games where Keenan Allen was out, Williams has solid numbers:

  • 6 targets, 6 catches, for 61 yards
  • 7 targets, 6 catches, 108 yards, 1 TD (vs. Chiefs)
  • 10 targets, 4 catches, 54 yards

He has reeled in six touchdowns in nine career games against the Chiefs. I'm all over this at this price. The Chargers paid "Big Mike" top 10 receiver money this past offseason and moments like Thursday night will prove why. He led the Chargers with 62 snaps and 31 routes. This is elite usage and Williams is set up to boom this week.

Josh Palmer (+255) (Bet $100 to Win $255)

*Odds Available at DraftKings*

In one game last season that Keenan Allen missed, Josh Palmer played 62 of 66 snaps and ran 33 routes on 35 Herbert dropbacks. He ended with 5 catches for 66 yards and a touchdown! After Allen left the Week 1 game, Palmer won easily on a double move that would have resulted in a touchdown from 18 yards out if Herbert wasn't disrupted as he targeted Palmer. In three games that Palmer received at least 6 targets, he has scored in all three! Even though his teammate DeAndre Carter had the better stats in Week 1, Carter ran just 40% of the routes that all came in three-wide receiver sets. Palmer ran 71.4% of the routes and 100% of the three wide sets.

Mecole Hardman (+300) (Bet $100 to Win $300)

*Odds Available at PointsBet*

Are you kidding me? At this number, we have to lock in the speedster in Week 2 after cashing him in Week 1 at the same price. Not only did he score once last week but he had an opportunity for another but Mahomes made a rare mistake overthrowing him on what would have been a walk-in 62-yard touchdown. Hardman was third behind JuJu and Valdes-Scantling in routes but he received two more targets than MVS. Hardman led the Chiefs passing game in Week 1 in red zone targets. He ran the most routes of any Kansas City receiver inside the 10-yard line. As I mentioned on Sunday, Mecole is the most familiar face aside from Travis Kelce and has a chance to produce early on here in 2022. Andy Reid and Eric Bieniemy's offense continues to utilize pre-snap motion, averaging the most in the NFL in Week 1 at 75.8% of plays. Mecole is set up nicely using his blazing speed in this offense. The Chargers pass rush is real and dangerous, so getting the ball out quickly and into the hands of a playmaker like Hardman will pay dividends on a short week for the Chiefs offensive line.

Jerrick McKinnon (+550) (Bet $100 to Win $550)

*Odds Available at PointsBet*

Ahh, one of our favorite guys from 2021, Jerrick "The Jet" McKinnon is back on the anytime touchdown list. In a pass-heavy Chiefs offense, McKinnon has sneaky value week in and week out. I know what you're thinking. "But Tom, Edwards-Helaire scored two times in Week 1 and McKinnon didn't come close." Let's take a quick look through Week 1's numbers. He rushed four times for 22 yards and caught 3 passes on four targets for 27 yards. He played an equal 27 snaps as Edwards-Helaire and finished with 7 touches compared to CEH's 10. No, they weren't in junk time either. All 8 opportunities came when the Kansas City starters were on the field. The discrepancy isn't high enough to not believe McKinnon can capitalize in a projected high-scoring battle. Jerrick is a staple on third downs in this offense and he will have his chances against a Chargers defense that allowed the fourth-most touchdowns to opposing running backs just last season. They allowed 6.4 yards per carry in Week 1 to the Raiders and one way to slow down a pass rush is running the ball effectively and utilizing screens.
