One of the best matchups on the Week 2 slate will occur at MT&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland. The Ravens and Dolphins will play each other for the third time in the past four seasons but it will be the first time in front of the Ravens' home crowd. It's been a series of blowouts, grit, and upsets.
Who will be reliable enough to score a touchdown in a battle for the AFC Here are our picks, predictions, and odds for Sunday's game between the Baltimore Ravens vs. Miami Dolphins.
Ravens vs. Dolphins Anytime Touchdown Pick
Both of these teams have rosters that look much different than the last time they played each other in 2021. Baltimore traded Marquise "Hollywood" Brown to Arizona, paving the way for Rashod Bateman to step into the WR1 role. Miami had numerous personnel and staff changes, hiring first-year head coach Mike McDaniel to bring the run-centric, zone-blocking scheme that he helped mastermind in San Francisco. This also brought in Raheem Mostert, Chase Edmonds, Tyreek Hill, and Terron Armstead to rejuvenate the Dolphins' roster.
The previous matchups in 2019 and 2021 were both surprising but this third matchup could be explosive from start to finish. Jackson eviscerated the Miami defense in 2019 with over 300 yards and five touchdowns through the air, while Tua Tagovailoa came into the game and sealed a 22-10 win with a quarterback sneak.
Miami funneled their passing through Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, pivoting away from the rushing attack. Chase Edmonds saw 19 opportunities but the Dolphins struggled to get the ground game going against the Patriots' defensive front, finishing with 23 carries for 65 yards collectively. McDaniel may try to dial up some early outside zones with Edmonds or Mostert to utilize their speed against a Baltimore defense that allowed Jets running backs to average 4.88 YPC.
As tempting as it sounds to back Edmonds or Mostert finding the end zone at +180 or better odds, there are better players to back in this matchup. Hill and Waddle will face a better secondary this week led by Marcus Peters and Marlon Humphrey, which is why they are fifth and eighth respectively in terms of most likely to score a touchdown. Yes, Hill leads the Dolphins at +160 but the Ravens only surrendered one touchdown last week and it was to the tight end position. Most concerning is the fact that the Dolphins haven't scored more than one touchdown in either of their previous matchups against Baltimore.
Both of these teams have playmakers at each level of their defense but the Ravens are reportedly set to bring back J.K. Dobbins in his first game following a brutal ACL injury sustained during last preseason. If Dobbins sees snaps and opportunities and flashes the combination of speed and burst seen during his rookie season in 2020, expect Baltimore to have plenty of red zone trips. Mark Andrews becomes the enticing player to back in goal-to-go scenarios.
Andrews scored Baltimore's lone touchdown last year during their loss in South Beach. He didn't link up with Jackson during his three-touchdown performance against the Jets in Week 1, but he still led the Ravens with seven targets. Andrews has phenomenal chemistry with Jackson and he's a friendly safety valve when the field becomes constricted in the red zone.
Oddsmakers also believe that Andrews has the best opportunity to score compared to any other skilled player in this matchup. He's +130, so you're still getting good value on a dynamic player who has been able to find the end zone during both of his previous games against Miami. Bet Andrews and watch him secure his first touchdown of the 2022 season.
