CLEVELAND BROWNS VS. NEW YORK JETS PREDICTION

The Jets were an offseason favorite after a successful draft and free agency, while the Browns' decision to pay Deshaun Watson a massive contract stole headlines and hid the other talent acquired and developed on its roster. Neither team has a prolific quarterback in this matchup, as 37-year-old veteran Joe Flacco will face journeyman Jacoby Brissett. They will both have their work cut out for them against quality defensive units.

The game script could certainly evolve into a run-centric focus for both teams. Nick Chubb is a bonafide superstar running back, ripping off 22 carries for 141 yards against Carolina in Week 1, while Kareem Hunt finished with a pair of touchdowns and 70 total scrimmage yards. Brissett will face a top-five draft pick in rookie cornerback Sauce Gardner while dealing with an improved Jets' front seven.

The Jets surrendered several big plays to Lamar Jackson through the air last week, including a 55-yard deep ball to Rashod Bateman to blow the game wide open. Yet, Brissett has a young wide receiving corps that needs to establish more continuity with their current quarterback. This means that Chubb and Hunt will once again receive heavy volume.

It's interesting to note that when these two teams last met in December 2020, Chubb was held to 11 carries for 28 yards and a touchdown. Hunt also barely did anything as a ball carrier, churning out four carries for 11 yards and a touchdown. However, both Browns running backs were effective in the passing game, earning five targets each and producing at least 38 receiving yards.

Chubb is known for his lack of usage in the passing game but he finished with five receptions for 38 yards on five targets in 2020 playing alongside Baker Mayfield. Now that Brissett is under center and Kevin Stefanski saw a few woeful throws, you can expect their running backs to be peppered with targets to move the ball against a stout Jets front-seven. Last weekend, the Jets held Baltimore to 63 rushing yards, forcing them to pass the ball. This will lead to Chubb finishing with over 1.5 receptions. It's a good value at +115, which can be attributed to Chubb finishing Week 1 with one reception on one target.

Bet the over on Chubb's receptions prop with confidence in a matchup where run defenses will dominate against lackluster quarterback play.
