Bengals vs. Dolphins Thursday Night Football Prediction

Tonight we see the only remaining undefeated team in the AFC, the Miami Dolphins go up against a Cincinnati Bengals team that has been slow out the gates. On a short week, will the Bengals benefit from an easier win over the New York Jets, while the Dolphins, and in particular Tua Tagovailoa need to recover from a hard-fought victory over the Buffalo Bills?

Tua had to be checked for a concussion midway through the game and while he cleared concussion protocol, there has been a lot of criticism of how his situation was handled. Add that to his ankle and back ailments, and this Thursday Night Football game may have come too early for Tagovailoa and his Miami offense.

With that said, if he is good to go, Tua leads the league in yards per pass attempt (9.2) and his 117.8 passer rating is bettered only by Lamar Jackson, who he came from behind to beat in NFL Week 2. With Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill constant threats, and an emerging endzone target in River Cracraft, Tua and his team have been automatic to this point.

If Tua cannot go, things may change. While on the face of it, Teddy Bridgewater is arguably one of the better backup Quarterbacks in the league, he will have to win through the air, with very little support on the ground, as the Dolphins rushing offense sits 31st out of 32 teams in yards per game, with just 64! No single rusher has eclipsed 51 yards for the Dolphins yet this season, and the Bengals rank 8th in rush defense in the NFL. So if Tua doesn't go, or has to come out early, Bridgewater will need to find Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill early and often in this one. The last time he played this Bengals defense was for the Denver Broncos last year, and he threw for just 98 yards. He didn't have the offense or the mind of Mike McDaniel like he does here in Miami though, so the past might not matter.

For the Bengals, it is a case of looking at how Lamar Jackson threw all over this defense in Week 2 and getting Joe Burrow to replicate that. The Dolphins are winning games, despite its defense ranking 31st in the league for total yards allowed, and that statistic might finally rear its ugly head here.

Joe Mixon and Hayden Hurst were both limited in the build-up this one but are expected to play, so with a full-strength offense on display, the Bengals should be able to score on Thursday Night Football. So then it comes down to who the Bengals have to stop, whether it be Tua or Bridgewater under center, and then slowing down the elite receiving duo of Hill and Waddle. With the trio of Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and Tyler Boyd though, Burrow has his own weapons, who are equally as dangerous, and this could easily turn into a shootout.

The AFC is relying on the Bengals to slow down the Dolphins and leave every team with at least one loss on their card thru four weeks, and Jow Burrow and co. will look to be the ones to inflict it. If this game came on NFL Sunday it may be different, but it really does feel like it has come too early for an ailing Tagovailoa and a Miami Dolphins team in general, that has had to work hard to beat the Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills in back-to-back weeks.

Moneyline Prediction: Cincinnati Bengals (-190)

Pick against the spread: Cincinnati Bengals -3.5 (-108)

Bengals vs Dolphins Best Bet for the FanDuel Promo Code

Here is our favorite bet for this game, as you look to bet $1, win $125 guaranteed, with the FanDuel promo code.

Joe Burrow over 268.5 passing yards (-113)

Given that Burrow has passed for over 275 yards in two of his three games, and the Dolphins have allowed Mac Jones to pass for 213 yards, Lamar Jackson to throw for 318, and Josh Allen 400 yards, despite winning all three games, it feels a good number here. If the Bengals are truly in sync after a win last time out, Burrow should be able to top this number against a defense that bleeds yards.
