On Sunday, the Dallas Cowboys host the Chicago Bears. The Bears have been a run-first team all season, will that continue today? Handicapper and player props expert Gray Gutfruend is here with his best bet for Cowboys vs. Bears.
ANALYSIS

Dallas Cowboys vs. Chicago Bears Player Prop Prediction: Can We Trust David Montgomery?

The Chicago Bears run the ball as much as any team in football on a weekly basis. Whether they're winning or losing, it doesn't matter. They have a three-headed rushing monster comprised of quarterback Justin Fields plus running backs David Montgomery and Khalil Herbert.

Montgomery has seen the largest rushing volume out of this group, which should continue in Dallas in Week 8. He's had no problem reaching this over in the past weeks, and today should be no different.

Dallas Cowboys vs. Chicago Bears Prediction

David Montgomery has appeared in six games this season. But he was injured in Week 3's contest on Chicago's first drive. So, let's just take a look at his five other games in 2022.

Monty has at least 12 carries in all five of his full games this season, and 15+ in 4 of these 5 games, too. And, much like the rest of Chicago's offense, he's operated independently of the game script. The 25-year-old RB had 15 carries in a 17-point loss to Green Bay while also handling 15 carries in Monday night's 33-14 win over the Patriots.

Despite Fields and Herbert remaining quite involved in Chicago's rushing attack, Monty's volume has been there weekly. He's averaging 14.8 rushing attempts per game across his five full contests, which is in line with what we saw from Montgomery and the Bears in 2021.

The fourth-year pro received at least 12 rushing attempts in 11 of 13 games last season. Even though he hasn't looked much better as a runner compared to Herbert this season, Chicago's coaching staff has remained consistent with their backfield volume distribution.

Additionally, the Cowboys' defense has been phenomenal this season. They have the 1st-ranked pass defense in the NFL but have merely been average against the run. It's been so difficult to throw on Dallas due to their incredible pass rush and lockdown secondary. So, teams have opted to run a bit more against them.

Take a look at the Lions last week. They lost 24-6 in Dallas, but they ran 25 times and threw 26 times. Meanwhile, Chicago has been top two in run rate all season long and has one of the five most efficient rushing offenses in football. Look for the Bears to continue leaning on David Montgomery and their run game in Week 8.
