Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Los Angeles Rams Prediction
The NFL preseason favorites to represent the NFC, Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, have struggled mightily to begin their 2022-23 campaign. Brady is leading a team that's two games under .500 for the first time in his 23-year career, and it's not much his doing. Starting center Ryan Jensen went down in the preseason and won't play in 2022, which was a massive blow to an already not-too-hot aging offensive line, the secondary has had at least one starter out in all but one game, thus far, and now the hits keep coming as it was announced earlier this week that former All-Pro pass rusher, Shaq Barrett will miss the rest of the season with an Achilles injury. The Bucs' three wins this season have come against the Dallas Cowboys on opening night, the New Orleans Saints in week two, and a 21-15 victory over the current NFC South leaders in the form of the Atlanta Falcons. Tampa heads into Sunday's Week 9 afternoon showdown with the Rams looking to halt a three-game skid after losses against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Carolina Panthers, and most recently, the Baltimore Ravens, on Thursday Night Football in week eight.
Meanwhile, the defending Super Bowl champions, the Los Angeles Rams, have had quite the Super Bowl hangover. Following a blowout loss to current oddsmakers favorites to win it all this year, the Buffalo Bills, on LA's banner-raising night in week one, it appeared as if the Rams were back with back-to-back wins over the Atlanta Falcons and Arizona Cardinals. However, a pair of losses to the San Francisco 49ers and Cooper Rush-led Dallas Cowboys brought Sean McVay's squad back down to earth. The Rams got momentarily back on track with a win over the Carolina Panthers but got blown out by their NFC West rivals, the San Francisco 49ers, this past Sunday afternoon.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Los Angeles Rams Pick
This one comes down to who you trust more. Will it be a potentially still-recovering from off-season shoulder surgery, Matthew Stafford, whose two best offensive weapons will be well below 100% (if they even play) in the form of Cooper Kupp and Tyler Higbee? Or will it be a healthy seven-time Super Bowl champion who will have Mike Evans and Chris Godwin at his disposal without an injury report appearance during the week for the firs-time this season? Give me the latter to be the one who figures it out first.
Adding some context to back up just a gut feeling, Tom Brady-led teams have notoriously started slow (albeit not this slow), and the 45-year-old still has two of the best receivers in the NFL, with the aforementioned Evans and Godwin to toss the rock to, coupled with a former Pro Bowl tailback behind him in the form of Leonard Fournette.
