Commanders vs. Vikings Prediction

There are a lot of narratives and storylines to follow in this NFC interdivisional matchup on Sunday. Most notably, Kirk Cousins and Kevin O'Connell, who worked together during Cousins' tenure in Washington, returning to FedExField to take on a gritty Washington Commanders team. The Vikings are firing on all cylinders right now, winning closely contested games against Miami and Arizona recently.

Washington has turned to backup quarterback Taylor Heinicke with success. The Commanders are finally getting rhythm established with the passing game, especially wideout Terry McLaurin, who sealed a Week 8 comeback win with a deep completion and converted the go-ahead touchdown at the Colts' goal line. Washington running back Antonio Gibson is also coming to life, but the absence of J.D. McKissic, combined with Minnesota's top-ten run defense, could create a long afternoon for the Commanders in front of their home fans.

Minnesota hasn't won in D.C. since Cousins was under center for Washington back in 2017, but the Vikings have won four of the last five straight up in this series. Minnesota edge rusher/linebacker Za'Darius Smith is proving to be one of the biggest free agent signings in the entire league, disrupting run and pass plays alike with his game-wrecking ability off the edge. Expect a heavy dose of Dalvin Cook to establish the passing attack for Minnesota, which will be fruitful against a pedestrian Washington secondary.

Let's explore my best anytime touchdown scorer prop bets between two teams playing with confidence and momentum.

Commanders vs. Vikings Best Anytime TD Scorer Picks

Justin Jefferson (+105) (Bet $100 to collect $205) Click here for the best odds, available at FanDuel

Minnesota has been utilizing Justin Jefferson as their top target within the offense, but the touchdowns have not been a piece of the puzzle lately. After an explosive two-touchdown outing against Green Bay's talented secondary in Week 1, the Vikings' star wideout has failed to find the end zone. This will be Jefferson's first time playing against Washington in his three-year career and they are a plus matchup, allowing 14 total receiving touchdowns through eight games. It's worth noting that Washington has held four consecutive teams under 200 passing yards, but Minnesota has too many weapons to contain. Jefferson will end his slump and deliver a nice plus-odds payout at +105 with an anytime touchdown score against Washington on Sunday.

Antonio Gibson (+200) (Bet $100 to collect $300) Click here for the best odds, available at PointsBet

Another player with his first exposure to the opponent in this Week 9 NFC matchup is Antonio Gibson. The third-year running back is no stranger to touchdowns, scoring double-digit touchdowns in consecutive seasons to begin his career in Washington. The former wideout is now earning a bigger role in the Commanders' passing attack, hauling in three or more receptions in five consecutive games. Gibson hasn't scored a rushing touchdown since Week 3, but he has scored in back-to-back matchups against Green Bay and Indianapolis entering Week 9. Minnesota presents a difficult matchup for Washington's run game as a top-ten run defense, but Gibson's increased role as a pass-catcher is likely to result in a third consecutive score. At +190, this is a great payout with a strong likelihood of hitting.

T.J. Hockenson (+205) (Bet $100 to collect $305) Click here for the best odds, available at FanDuel

It's risky due to the lack of continuity within Minnesota's scheme, but getting recently acquired tight end T.J. Hockenson involved as a safety valve within the offense is a must for Kevin O'Connell. Irv Smith was heavily involved in the passing attack before suffering his ankle injury, which prompted the Vikings' front office to trade a few draft picks for one of Detroit's top weapons. It will be an uphill battle against Washington, who is great at defending tight ends this season, but Minnesota will have a handful of red zone trips on Sunday.

Hockenson set a historic record with his performance against Seattle earlier in the season, showing that he's capable of taking over a game. In Minnesota's potent, high-efficiency offense, Hockenson will have a few opportunities to score his fourth touchdown of the 2022 season as the newest member of the Vikings. +205 is a fantastic payout, so ignore the tough matchup and lay an anytime touchdown scorer player prop bet on Hockenson against Washington.
