Minnesota Vikings vs. Washington Commanders Prediction, Pick, Odds: Will Minnesota Lean on Dalvin Cook?
The Minnesota Vikings have been one of the bigger surprises of the 2022 NFL season. They have an array of offensive weapons and all of them have stayed healthy so far, leading to a top-10 offense and a 6-1 record.
This week, they have a road date with the Washington Commanders. The 4-4 Commanders have a solid run defense on paper, but they shouldn't pose a huge threat to Dalvin Cook and the Vikings. Cook's production has been nearly automatic in 2022, and Minnesota should continue to lean on him in Week 9.

Minnesota Vikings vs. Washington Commanders Prediction
Dalvin Cook Over 73.5 Rushing Yards (-115) (Bet $100 to collect $186) Get the best odds, available at DraftKings
Dalvin Cook is posting at least 80 rushing yards per game for the 4th consecutive season. He's one of just seven qualified runners averaging 80-plus YPG, so it's safe to say his age isn't showing in his 6th professional season.
Dalvin's stranglehold on the backfield workload remains strong as ever, too. He's out-carried teammate Alexander Mattison 114-35 this season, good for a 76.5% share of Minnesota's running back carries. For reference, here are his RB rush shares when sharing the field with Mattison in past seasons:
- 2021: 82.1%
- 2020: 78.9%
- 2019: 70.7%
In 36 games where Cook and Mattison both suited up for Minnesota from 2019 to 2021, Cook handled 76.8% of the carries between the two, nearly identical to this year's 76.5% mark.
Thanks to his consistent volume, Cook has run for 75+ yards in 6 of 7 games this season. This comes after cashing the over on this prop in two-thirds of his games over the prior two seasons. The Florida State product has also hit this over in every single one of Minnesota's 12 wins that he's been active for over the last two seasons. The Vikings are 3-point favorites in Washington this week, so Cook should remain the focal point of the team's offensive attack.
Washington conceded 76 yards to Jonathan Taylor on 16 carries last week. And, the Bears ran 37 times for 237 yards as a team two weeks prior. Derrick Henry also notched a 102-yard rushing performance against Washington a month ago. As long as the volume is there for him, Dalvin Cook should keep rolling this Sunday.
