3M Open Daily Fantasy Picks & Predictions

We got things started off right last week with all 5 plays making the cut at The Open Championship. Let’s back it up this week for one of my favorite Birdie-Fest stops on tour at TPC Twin Cities for the 3M Open. With the added wrinkle this year of a quirky scheduling spot sandwiched between The Open Championship and The Olympics, the importance of showing up focused and in form will be paramount. Twin Cities is your typical TPC setup that will yield plenty of low scores and birdie streaks even though there is water in play on 14 holes.

In the first two years, there have been 23 players that have finished -16 or better so going low is a requirement to compete. I am targeting players who are honed-in with their irons and approach play. With wider than normal landing areas and friendly TPC greens, this plays as the quintessential second shot course. Strong Birdie rates will be a plus and I’m going to factor in their recent finishes at the Rocket Mortgage and John Deere Classic as I see some strong correlations there. Let’s get into it!

2021 3M Open Daily Fantasy Picks

All golfer prices for the 3M Open according to DraftKings

$10,000 Range: Tony Finau @ $10,700

I’ll be honest, I don’t love anyone in this range, but if I do take a stand up here, Finau will be the play. Flying across the Atlantic after a T15 at The Open, and a 3rd place finish at the 3M in 2020, he will tee it up with both confidence and some course knowledge on a short prep week. I think it’s fair to say that Tony clearly has the most to play for in this range as well from a motivation standpoint. He NEEDS a win, both from a career standpoint, and to secure his spot on the Ryder Cup roster as he is currently 12th in the points race.

$9,000 Range: Bubba Watson @ $9,100

After being forced to miss The Open for coming into close contact with someone who had Covid, Bubba comes in rested and in great form with his irons. A rolling report indicates steady improvement in his Approach play and navigating the lines off the tee around the water should suit his eye. I mentioned earlier the correlation between the 3M and the Rocket Mortgage, where Bubba finished 6th in his last start. Bubba week!

$8,000 Range: Luke List @ $8,100

Give me ALL the chalk! I don’t mind it here. In the short term (Last 24 rounds), he ranks inside the top 10 in Approach, Ball-Striking, Greens in Regulation, Birdies or better, and Driving Distance. He finished in the top 5 last week for the second consecutive week, amidst losing over 2 strokes putting. It’s too much to ignore, just click his name.

$7,000 Range: Troy Merritt @ $7,500

Given the ownership accrued thus far, I need a solid pivot in this range. I think Merritt provides that in a natural zig when the majority will zag to Jhonny Vegas. Merritt has shown the propensity to bring his best stuff when the scoring conditions are easier than normal. He finished 7th in the inaugural 3M Open in 2019, and he just found his way into a playoff at the Rocket Mortgage 3 weeks ago. How about another one of those weeks where you roll everything in the hole Troy?

$6,000 Range: Cameron Percy @ $6,800

Hear me out, it’s ugly down here. There are glaring weaknesses for every player, so I think the way to attack it is to isolate the stat you think is most important for the week and find out who is doing it the best. For me that stat is Approach play, and for me that player is Cam Percy. He has gained strokes with his irons in 14/15 events and is averaging +2.5 on approach over the last 5 tournaments. If he can putt to field average, I think he has top 25 potential.

Good luck friends and thanks for stopping by!
