Men's Olympic Golf Daily Fantasy Picks & Predictions: Justin Thomas Leads The Way For Team USA
59 Players. 4 Days. 3 Medals. Olympics Golf has returned for it’s second iteration after embarking on this journey back in 2016. The long-awaited return will culminate at Kasumigaseki Country Club in Japan. We know the course is setup to be a lengthy test at 7,466 and a par 71. Now factor in the Typhoon that is on the way into town and I think we’re going to see a wet golf course that is further elongated.
It will be an interesting week for DFS. We have a no cut event featuring a field that has a floor to ceiling stretching several stories high. 3 of the 5 best players in the world (OWGR) will tee it up alongside 7 guys who haven’t played in a single PGA Tour event in their life. It’s a Tom Fazio designed course, which means large greens that feature massive slopes and several tiers. I typically put a higher emphasis on Approach play and proximity these weeks because if you want legitimate looks at birdie, you must leave yourself the proper putt. I shouldn’t have any issue extending my made cuts streak with Oddschecker to 15/15 this week (wink), so let’s get into my favorite plays in each pricing tier!

$10,000 Range: Justin Thomas $10,900
Bite the bullet and pay the premium for JT this week. He has a long history of transferring his game successfully to the Asian Pacific with multiple worldwide wins each in Malaysia, Korea, and Hawaii. The form has been great and his track record in no cut events is outstanding as well. I have concerns about Morikawa post-Open victory lap back to Vegas, and I think it’s noteworthy that after his WGC win earlier this year he finished 41st (2nd worst finish of the season) and after he won the PGA Championship he missed his next cut. Thomas feels right and he’s my favorite pick to win at the top!
$9,000 Range: Shane Lowry $9,600
I’ll start with this; I believe an important factor in your 9k selection will come down to contest selection. With a limited field, and 20 names you can immediately cross off the list, you are going to need to differentiate somewhere if you play a large format GPP contest. Lowry is a great leverage spot and may come in the lowest owned in this range. He has played 4 tournaments in the last 3 months which include a 4th at the PGA, 6th at Memorial, and most recently a 12th place finish at The Open.
$8,000 Range: Corey Connors $8,800
Notice the theme here? Great iron players who have been below average putters lately. That’s because putting is the most variant and likely to flip. See Morikawa at The Open and Champ last week. It can happen at any moment. While the fairways are wide, the outer tree lines are thick and troublesome should a player hit one wayward. Connors rarely does and has been elite with his long iron play for a while now.
$7,000 Range: Si Woo Kim $7,800
The best storyline by far this week is the Korean’s playing for military exemption. The consequence for not medaling is being drafted into the South Korean military and staring down Kim Jong across the border for 2 years while the career that you have worked your entire life for deteriorates. Wow! Si Woo notably skipped The Open to focus all his attention on the Olympics. It’s a hefty weight to carry, but he has shown the ability to rise to the occasion in the past. We are all rooting for Si Woo this week!
$6,000 Range: Rafael Campos $6,000
Reeeeach. Grasping a straws here as the 6k range falls off a steep cliff in terms of talent. Everyone is going to player Norlander, but I’m going to take my chances win min-price Campos and save $800 to apply up top. A recent T20 at Barbasol, a made cut at Congaree which I made a comp course, and 2nd place finish at the Fazio designed Corales in March were those straws! I have no doubt he will make the cut this week.
Good luck this week and enjoy The Olympic Games!
