Northern Trust Daily Fantasy Picks & Predictions: Trust In Collin Morikawa
Another week, another winner from the $8,000 price range! Kisner came through last week clutch in a 6-man playoff and Abe Ancer was able to lift the trophy the week prior in Memphis! If you can manage to find the winner in the 8k range, it gives you a ton of leverage on the field and I hope you all had some green screens come Sunday night! Let’s dive right into week 1 of the Fedex Cup Playoffs where we will see a reduced field event of 124 players at Liberty National Golf Club in New Jersey.
The course has been lengthened to upwards of 7,400 yards since the last time we saw this course in 2019. I found SG: Tee to Green to be most corollary to success and it was not necessarily bombers who got it done. Players like Snedeker, Varner, Ancer all finished in the top five and Patrick Reed (winner) had his 2nd best T2G week of his career. The other main stats that I am plugging into my model are SG: Short Game, Fairways Gained, Scrambling, and Putting (Bent grass).
Northern Trust Daily Fantasy Picks
$10,000 Range: Collin Morikawa @ $10,400
Morikawa is the best player in the field from Tee to Green over the last 24 rounds, and the margin is substantial. The consistency is his game is also unmatched as he has one finish outside the top 20 in his last 8 starts. The concern, as always with Collin, is the putter. Bent grass greens are where he has found the most success to date so if he can just putt field average, the rest of his game can carry him to victory.
$9,000 Range: Patrick Cantlay @ $9,200
With this event being potentially the strongest weighted field ever (via OWGR), I think Cantlay makes a perfect stack with Morikawa to leave you plenty of funds to build a solid all-around team. He ranked #1 over in my combined stat model. Cantlay is 1st in Greens in Regulation over the last 24 rounds and he is an excellent scrambler on the occasion he does get out of position. I think his game sets up perfectly for Liberty National.
$8,000 Range: Webb Simpson @ $8,900
Let’s see if we can conjure up another W in this range! Webb is trending in the right direction with three consecutive top 20’s and has also finished 18th and 15th in the two previous tournaments held at this venue. His caddy mentioned last week how he had been dealing with long-haul covid symptoms for much of the year but finally feels healthy again. This is a spot I would rather be early than late on Webb coming off his best approach week of his PGA Tour career at the Wyndham.
$7,000 Range: Kevin Streelman @ $7,400
Streelman really fits the mold of what I’m looking for this week and he’s in the midst of a great form run as well. He has finished Top 20 or better in 6 of his last 8 starts which includes barely missing out on the massive Playoff last week. The iron play and off the tee game has been solid and he simply doesn’t get himself into much trouble. The upside is there for Streelman if he can have a good putting week.
$6,000 Range: Adam Hadwin @ $6,700
Streaky player here that I’m hoping can continue a hot little run. He’s coming into this week with back-to-back top 10 finishes where he posted some of his best T2G and Approach numbers of the season. Hadwin is a great putter who can tend to get hot when he is on one of these runs. He has some solid course experience under his belt from when he made the Presidents Cup Team in 2017 which was held at this course as well.
Best of luck this week!
