Ryder Cup Picks & Predictions: Top USA Point-Scorer
Less than a week until we kick off the Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits, and only a week for Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau to pretend to be friends.
Unlike PGA Tour events, the opportunity to win big on the Ryder Cup is limited, as there’s not too much value in the main Ryder Cup odds market, however, if you venture into the Ryder Cup prop-markets, you will find a few bigger price opportunities.
The Top USA Point-Scorer is one Ryder Cup odds market that has got my attention, and I’ve made a Ryder Cup prediction that is really easy to pick apart and will be laughed out by many.
However, despite Bryson DeChambeau being hated by most players on his team, I’m actually going to bet him in the Top USA Point-Scorer market. Yes, I know this relies on Striker sending him out on multiple occasions, but hopefully, this course forces the captain's hand.
There are two things that stand out to me about Whistling Straits -- that it will suit bombers, and you need to have spot-on long irons.
Everyone knows Bryson DeChambeau can bomb it (he’s entered the long-drive competition this month), but his long irons are underrated. Over the last three months, he ranks first for driving distance and shots gained proximity 200+ yards.
He comes into the event in good form, with an 11th at the Tour Championship and 2nd at the BMW Championship.
Given he’s not the most popular on the team, I would avoid Bryson at low odds, however, at +900, he’s well worth chancing in the Top USA Point-Scorer market.
Granted, DeChambeau has a terrible Ryder Cup record, but this is a different course, and he’s a very different player now.
Ryder Cup Picks & Predictions: Top Europe Point-Scorer
There are a few very questionable comments that have come out of the Jon Rahm camp lately, and pulling out on Wednesday isn’t ideal prep. Therefore I’m opting to fade him in the Top European Point-Scorer odds market.
There were also some worrying comments from Rory McIlroy a couple of weeks ago, but his golf is in good shape at the minute, and despite losing shots in approach in the last few events, he’s been gaining in 200+ approaches, which will be key here.
His long irons are hot at the minute, and we all know how pumped Rory McIlroy will get for the Ryder Cup.
There aren’t many players in the European Team who will suit this course, therefore I don’t think he has many to beat.
I'm happy to take Rory at +550 with Jon Rahm giving him a little more value.
Ryder Cup Picks & Predictions: Back-Up Prop Bets
There’s a couple of other Ryder Cup prop bets in the same markets which I’m tempted to have a little wager on, especially with some sports betting sites offering each-way markets (payout top three).
Paul Casey at 10/1 to be the top point-scorer for the European Team looks a solid Ryder Cup prediction. He’s one of the only few in the European Team who can drive like the Americans, and over the last six months, is up there with Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau when it comes to long irons.
Casey hasn’t always played a starring role in Ryder Cups previously, however, he might be used more this time around given the demands of Whistling Straits.
Another Ryder Cup pick is Tony Finau each-way in the top USA point-scorer market. Finau always sneaks under the radar in markets like this, and like DeChambeau, this course should suit his skills.
Tony comes into the Ryder Cup in good form, and finally got his second win on Tour. He will now feel like he belongs to be part of this team, and +1200 is a decent each-way option -- also take the +450 on offer in the Top American Wildcard odds market.
