RSM Classic daily fantasy picks and predictions for this week's PGA Tour event. DFS expert Joe Idone tell you who to roster in each price range

RSM Classic Daily Fantasy Picks and Predictions: Keep an Eye on Cam Smith at the Top

So, we’ve made it to the final full-field PGA Tour event of 2021! I’ve truly enjoyed panning the keyboard to write these pieces for Oddschecker each week and I think they have become a vital part of my process. I want to extend a huge thank you to anyone who has taken the time to read them and hopefully they have helped in your process as well. Now, the question this week is simple, do we play or do we fade the Sea Island Mafia?

The RSM Classic returns to familiar Sea Island Resort where we will once again see 2 golf courses in play over the first two days. Both are short and tend to traditionally reward players that can hit a ton of fairways off the tee. We’ve seen a handful of similar tests thus far during the swing season that we can rely on to give us a pretty good idea of incoming relative form.

The Plantation course is slightly more protected against the wind but both courses are right next to each other and on the coast. The big difference is that the Plantation course, while essentially the same total yardage, has two additional par 5s that naturally provide more scoring opportunities. Typically in events like this, there can be an advantageous wave that may be worth exploring lineups stacks if entering multiple lineups. I’m sticking with what has historically led to success here; fairways, ball striking, short course performance, and success on Bermuda grass greens.

RSM Classic Daily Fantasy Picks and Predictions

10k+ Range: Cameron Smith @ $10,300

I was between Cam and Louis here but ultimately there are too many concerns for me regarding Louis’s lack of recent rounds and declining putter. Smith has posted top-15 finishes in 5 of his last 6 events amidst not being able to put everything together at once. I think this is a great setup for him where he can lean on his shot-making and ballstriking ability off the coast. Long term stats would indicate Bermuda may not be his preferred putting surface, but we witnessed this guy set the PGA Tour record for fewest putts in a round on Bermuda 3 months ago!

9k Range: Talor Gooch @ $9,300

The price is off here in my opinion. This really comes down to how much emphasis you want to place on local narratives. Gooch’s current incoming form is significantly better than his pricing companions. Everything is really clicking, and as we all know, there is only a finite wave to ride in golf where it’s all coming together before it ends. This will be his final opportunity of the Fall to capitalize on his fantastic play which makes him my favorite play in this range.

8k Range: Joel Dahmen @ $8,500

I’m a sucker for a Sunday 65 where a player gains 3+ strokes on approach. Dahmen gained both Off the Tee and on Approach in all 4 rounds last week in Houston. His iron play has been sharp all Fall and Bermuda grass remains his best putting surface. I think the price point will be attractive for many but have no issues putting Dahmen in my core players at the RSM.

7k Range: Charles Howell III @ $7,800

The ageless wonder returns to the coast of Georgia where he secured his last PGA Tour victory in 2019. Howell has played this event in 10 straight years and Sea Island remains one of the better course fits for his game. It’s one of the rare stops where he consistently gains strokes on the field Tee to Green. I’ll roll with the local x course history narrative on this one and click CH3’s name at $7,800.

6k Range: Davis Thompson @ $6,400

Let’s do this! I played Thompson here last year where he made his PGA Tour debut at the RSM and finished 23rd. Any improvement on the former would present a massive upside at $6,400. He had his best Tee to Green performance of his young career at Sea Island and managed to post his best finish despite losing strokes putting. Thompson possesses all the tools to succeed here, and this will always be an event he has highlighted on the calendar! Go dawgs!

Good luck friends, go cash!
