ANALYSIS

The Masters Daily Fantasy Picks and Predictions: Spend on Justin Thomas

You can almost smell it. The timely bloom of the azaleas, the crisp morning breath of the Georgia pines, the fresh chop of the milk chocolate pine straw, Masters week has arrived! We've made it to Major season and the timing couldn't be better for the bankroll after a massive week at the Valero for the DFS article. We nailed the winner of JJ Spaun in the 6k range in combination with Matt Kuchar (T2), Adam Hadwin (T4), and Gary Woodland (T8).

We're onto a newly lengthened Augusta National Golf Club which will now play just over 7,500 yards, the longest we have ever seen it. We all know this week can be one of the most predictive tournaments in regards to course history. As a former player in the Masters told me, "you don't read the greens at Augusta, you remember them." It's certainly a plus to have a number of rounds under the belt coming into this week, but I don't think it's a total requirement as the past couple of years we have seen debutants make their mark on the leaderboard.

The length of the course is one thing, but given that Augusta received more rainfall this March than any time in the last 10 years, I think the course will be a bit softer than normal this week. That of course rewards players with a high ball flight and long carry distance off the tee. Lastly, we have to factor in a players acumen around the greens which requires an incredible touch and creativity on these uniquely contoured Bentgrass green surfaces. Without further ado, here are my favorite plays in each price range for DFS this week!

$10k+ Range: Justin Thomas $10,300

Yeah, yeah. I know he will clearly be the most popular play in this range but I think it comes with good reason and you are going to have to eat some chalk somewhere this week. The Ballstriking and Approach numbers have returned to unworldly form for JT and he comes into this week ready to peak. Things were looking great last year before being derailed during a weather delay, and I really believe he is most likely to win the 2022 edition. Also, I think adding Bones to the bag as a caddie is the unquantifiable element added this year that ultimately helps propel him to the green jacket at the Masters.

$9k+ Range: Patrick Cantlay $9,500

I think Cantlay fits the bill out the potentially forgotten elite. The 2021 Player of the Year comes into this week off of a MC at The Players and a disappointing early exit at the WGC Match Play. I'm not concerned, prior to that, he recorded top 5 finishes in five of his previous 6 starts! He's vastly improved around the greens and Bentgrass is his best putting surface by a substantial margin. He's made his share of charges through Augusta before and hopefully this week he can string together 4 complete rounds.

$8k+ Range: Louis Oosthuizen $8,900

If you plugged Louis into your lineup at any Major Championship last season, you made some money! His form is better than the stats may indicate as one or two bad swings during the Honda and Players really derailed his approach numbers. That said, he's making plenty of birdies and he shows up this week where he's gained over 18 strokes in the last 4 years at Augusta National. I trust his short game and putter to get himself into contention on a Major Sunday afternoon once again this week.

$7k+ Range: Tommy Fleetwood $7,700

Want to get different? I think Fleetwood is that play sandwiched between Fitzpatrick, Casey, and Connors here who will likely garner a lot more ownership. Tommy made a nice run through Florida finishing 22nd or better with a tidy short game at the API, Players Championship, and Valspar. The sheer width of the fairways at Augusta should negate his occasional big miss off the tee and will allow him to rely on his iron play which has forever been Tommy's hallmark. This will be his fifth Masters, so plenty of positive experiences in years past should have his confidence in a good place to make a run this week.

$6k+ Range: Thomas Pieters $6,600

It's time to dig through the bargain barrel. Big Thomas Pieters is that guy this week for me! My models have him ranked 14th in Driving Distance and third in sand save percentage, both of which I am placing extra emphasis on this week. I thought he looked sharp at the Match Play event. He finally returns to the field at the Masters this week after not competing the previous 3 years here. Who can forget when he finished T4 in his debut as a young stud back in 2017. I think Pieters possesses a ton of value at only $6,600 which should provide you with enough flexibility to build uniquely.
