RBC Heritage Expert Picks: Our Staff's Top Longshot Picks

We didn't get a longshot winner last week at the Masters, mainly because the No. 1 golfer in the world ran away with it early on. Scottie Scheffler cruised to a win at +1800, so any longshot pick you had was useless. However, we head to Harbour Town this week with a ton of longshot options on the board.

Rick Gehman, Geoff Fienberg, Sam Eaton, Joe Idone and Tom Jacobs join us to break down their favorite RBC Heritage longshot picks and why they think they're worth a bet this week.

RBC Heritage Longshot Picks

Sam Eaton: Billy Horschel @ +4500 (Bet $100 to win $4,500)

Billy Horschel isn’t being given much credit heading into the RBC Heritage. Billy Ho obviously makes his money throughout the Florida season, however, there’s not too much different between this course, and the ones he usually thrives at.

Horschel’s putter is on fire, he gained 4.6 shots on the field at the Arnold Palmer with the putter, 5.1 shots at the Phoenix Open and 5.3 at the Farmers. His flatstick can also get very hot here, he gained 8.1 shots on the field in putting at the RBC Heritage in 2018. Aside from the hot putter, you need to hit fairways and have a cracking approach game to succeed here. In the last three months, Billy has ranked 13th in terms of Good Drives (fantasy national stat), and 36th in the field when it comes to shots gained approach. Others who rank well at big prices are Adam Hadwin and Tom Hoge.

Tom Jacobs: Kevin Na @ +5000 (Bet $100 to win $5,000)

Na just qualifies as a longshot here, with one standout price of 50/1 remaining and I will use that to shoehorn him in here. He is my favorite bet of the week considering the odds and is a better winner than given credit for.. still. He has won 4 times since the start of 2018, and those that are ahead of him in that span are far shorter in the market, and there's not many. Na has 5 top-10's here since 2007 and played really well at both the Match Play and the Masters, after a bit of a lull that coincided with the birth of his new child. Na burst out of the gates at the Sony Open earlier in the year and has returned to form in the past couple of weeks as well, to suggest that 50/1 odds are generous, given his winning upside in recent years.

Geoff Fienberg: Mito Pereira @ +9000 (Bet $100 to win $9,000)

Lots of the early season hype for Mito has disappeared but his approach game has been solid as have his results(30th Valspar, 13th Valero). The tiny greens at Harbour Town will highlight his approach play and join a growing list of first-time winners at RBC Heritage.

Joe Idone: Denny McCarthy @ +12500 (Bet $100 to win $12,500)

Is this the week we finally see one of the best putters on the PGA Tour break through? I'll pay the price to find out at 125/1. The form is actually quite solid, making the cut in 11 of his 12 starts since November, which includes 5 top-15 finishes. What is enticing to me is the fact he's in the midst of a good run in terms of his OTT and Approach numbers. Harbour Town should present an ideal opportunity for Denny if he can continue to be net positive with his Ballstriking, and the hope then becomes that he has one of those weeks where he gains 5 strokes putting. Not out of the realm of possibilities for McCarthy, so I'll happily make him my favorite longshot of the week at 125/1.

Rick Gehman: Anirban Lahiri @ +18000 (Bet $100 to win $18,000)

I'm really interested to see if we are in the midst of a few outlier weeks for Lahiri or if he has made tangible and significant improvements in his game. He has gained a total of 13.56 strokes in the ball-striking categories over his last two starts. That resulted in a runner-up finish and a T13 finish. If he can lean on that precision this week, he could make plenty of noise.
