Scottish Open Expert Picks: Our Staff's Longshot Picks

We're just a week away from major golf. With the PGA Tour having a down week with a less-than-stellar field, we're heading to the DP World Tour overseas to check out the Scottish Open.

In preparation, we have our team of golfing experts here to give us their favorite Scottish Open longshot picks. If you're looking for a winner for the Scottish Open but want it to pay out a little more than one of the favorites, our Scottish Open longshot picks are perfect for you.

Geoff Fienberg, Rick Gehman, Tom Jacobs and Sam Eaton all breakdown their favorite Scottish Open longshots. And, by chance, we had three of our four experts pick the same exact golfer as their longshot this week.

Scottish Open Longshot Picks

Sam Eaton: Tyrell Hatton @ +5000 (Bet $100 to win $5,000)

There were a few DP World Tour players worth chancing a go at in Scotland, but I can't refuse the 50/1 on Hatton. Hatton's putter has been pretty hot in recent months, gaining 3 shots on the field on average in his last ten events. His iron play has been very hit or miss, with solid performances at the PGA and HBC Heritage but poor at the RBC Canadian. To be honest he ranks 37th in my model, which is probably even lower when you factor in the sample size of Europeans. However, he's got thee top ten's here in seven goes, and with the hot putter he's worth chancing at 50/1.

Tom Jacobs: Tyrrell Hatton @ +5000 (Bet $100 to win $5,000)

Tyrrell Hatton has been in and out form all year long, but he's played the majority of the year in America, and he's a different beast when playing in Europe, and in particular Scotland.

Hatton is a two-time Dunhill Links winner and two-time runner-up there as well, so he could easily have won four times at next week's venue, and that is a bonus when considering his chances here.

In total, Hatton has played in seven Scottish Open's and has 2nd, 4th and 9th place finishes, all at different venues to this week's one, but he's been good at Renaissance Club as well. In two starts here, he has finished 14th and 18th, and it has been one round both times that has cost him.

On his debut, Hatton opened with a 70, but followed up with rounds of 66-64-67 and last year he opened with rounds of 69-67 to sit 16th at the halfway stage, and he bounced back from a 3rd round 72 with a Sunday 65 to finish inside the top-20.

He loves links golf, and in his last 12 DP World Tour starts, he has made 10 cuts, won twice, finished 2nd once and has four more top-8 finishes, so he loves returning to his home Tour. You could say the field strength this week may render this run useless, but its impressive nonetheless to see how good he is when he returns to familiar events.

Geoff Fienberg: Tyrrell Hatton @ +5000 (Bet $100 to win $5,000)

While his form hasn't been ideal lately, I still think Hatton is over priced this week at +5000. Returning to his happy place on a true links layout should prove to be very beneficial for Hatton whom I expect to build off his two previous T20 finishes at the Renaissance club.

Rick Gehman: Mito Pereira @ +7500 (Bet $100 to win $7,500)

The Renaissance Club is going to ask for stellar ball-striking, which is great news for Pereira. He ranks 15th in this field over the last 50 rounds in the ball-striking categories and has (4) Top 20 finishes over his last six starts. This seems like a really good set-up for Pereira to lean into his strengths and make some noise again.
