British Open Picks: Max Homa, Xander Schauffele, Jordan Spieth Headline This Expert's Betting Card
Well guys we are finally here, the final major golf tournament of the season. It is a highly anticipated one to say the very least.
The Old Course at St. Andrews is the most historic golf course in the world and probably the best in all professional golf. Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo, John Daly, and Tiger Woods are some of the recent greats to claim victory at the Old Lady and there are over one hundred of the world’s best golfers in Scotland ready to try to write their names on that list this week; others are looking to re-write it once more.
British Open Predictions
There are so many ways to go about this Open Championship. There are many storylines going down, motivations had by different players, and just an incredibly strong field. There is no question that today’s game is the most competitive it has ever been, and I genuinely believe there are a good number of guys in the field who in varying conditions, situations and opportunities could win this week. it is a longshot for some, others not so much; I don’t want to get too caught up in predicting outright winners this week as there can only be one.
I am playing three or four with one as my most confident; other than that, we are going to be making plays on the field and lay our favorite wagers on how guys should finish up in the field. I can’t write about them all so I’m going to go with a few of my favorites here this weekend.
First of all I love these lines; I understand wanting to hit + money all the time in golf but why play a top ten at +200 something when you can get top 20 at a lesser price but save yourself if a guy finishes say 13th. I like all of these guys to do well this weekend and here is why.

Xander Schauffele
Xander is in amazing form winning each of his last two starts including the Scottish Open last week, another links-style course. He ranks fourth on the PGA in regards to avoiding three putts which are huge and as long as he continues to do that he should be well within the mix this week. The conditions are great so I expect a score somewhere north of -10 so he will probably have to push a bit more this week but with three wins under his belt on tour now this year, I think he is ready to make another push at winning his first major.
British Open Pick
- Xander Top 20 -130 (Bet $130 to win $100)
Justin Thomas
JT has had a terrific season and will easily be making it onto my card this weekend. I will probably bet him a few ways when it is all said and done and maybe even sprinkle on him outright but with the way he has been dialed in this year, the PGA under his belt and the form he is in we should see him on the leaderboard this weekend somewhere near the top.
British Open Pick
- Justin Thomas top 20 -125 (Bet $125 to win $100)
British Open Bonus Plays
I would do write-ups here too but just going to give them out but I like them just the same!
- Jordan Spieth top 20 -125 (Bet $125 to win $100)
- Max Homa top 20 +170 (Bet $100 to win $170)
- Tiger Woods to make the cut -160 (Bet $160 to win $100)
