Fortinet Championship Expert Picks: Our Experts' Longshot Picks
The PGA Tour doesn't have much of an offseason. As a matter of fact, there is almost no break between the TOUR Championship and the start of the next season. But, the good news is that means we have more longshot picks from our team of experts.
The opening event of the 2022-2023 PGA Tour season comes to us in the form of the Fortinet Championship. Rick Gehman, Sam Eaton, Tom Jacobs and Matt MacKay have identified four different Fortinet Championship longshot picks to help you get the season started with a little padding in your bankroll.

Fortinet Championship Longshot Picks
Matt MacKay: Trey Mullinax (+6000) (Bet $100 to win $6,000)
The first event of the 2022-23 PGA Tour season is set to get underway at the Fortinet Championship in Napa, California. What better way to start than tailing a longshot like Trey Mullinax? Yes, the 30-year-old native of Alabama missed the cut at Fortinet last year, but he vastly improved his game across the 2022 season. Mullinax earned three T10 finishes, won outright at the Barbasol Championship, and posted T5 and T12 finishes during the first two FedExCup playoff events. He went two-under-par at Silverado Resort & Spa golf course, barely missing the cut-line. Mullinax finished 2022 ranked 21st in strokes gained off-the-tee, averaging 317.2 yards per drive, and produced over four birdies per round. The cut line won't be an issue this weekend. Back Mullinax to wind up at the top of the leaderboard.

Rick Gehman: Taylor Montgomery (+6000) (Bet $100 to win $6,000)
Montgomery has been making plenty of noise on the Korn Ferry Tour and thanks to this (12) Top 15 finishes in his final 16 starts, he's now earned his PGA TOUR card for the new season. Montgomery didn't win on the KFT last year but it's almost improbable that he didn't. He gained 10+ strokes on the field five times in his final nine starts. That shows significant upside during the most difficult stretch of the schedule. He'll be exciting to track this season and he is likely to get off to a good start in Napa.

Tom Jacobs: Chez Reavie (+6000) (Bet $100 to win $6,000)
Chez Reavie has played all eight renewals of this event at Silverado, peaking with a 3rd place finish in 2020.
He recently won in California, at the Barracuda Championship and those that like playing in California or have connections to the state, tend to prosper here. Before that win, he was also 10th at Riviera earlier this year, which is another classical design that provides some crossover.
Since finishing 53rd on debut, Reavie has finished 33rd or better each time, and although that 3rd place finish remains his sole top-10 here, he was 5th going into the final round back in 2019, 8th at the halfway stage in 2017 and 10th going into Sunday back in 2016.
Multiple times then Reavie has been in and around the top-10 on this course, and his current ball striking suggests he can get in the mix again here.
Reavie is 6th on Tour in terms of Total Accuracy over the past 3 months, and while he hasn't finished better than 47th since winning at the Barracuda, he has flashed at times, including when 6th after day 1 of the BMW Championship, and 20th at the halfway stage, which was the toughest field in months.

Sam Eaton: David Lipsky (+11000) (Bet $100 to win $11,000)
With hitting fairways and shorter irons being a premium to succeeding at the Fortinet Championship, David Lipsky is the stand-out longshot for me. In the last six months, Lipsky ranks 24th in Fairways Gained in this field, 7th Prox 75-100, 6th Shots Gained Approach, 21st Par-5 Scoring, and 16th Prox 100-125. Statistics that are hard to believe for a player quoted at 110/1.
