02/17 - St. Louis Blues @ Minnesota Wild
Pick: St. Louis Blues ML -105
The Blues are pretty unquestionably the hottest team in the league right now, breaking out of their mediocre form early in the season to streak to an insane 9-game winning streak. They've been able to hang with some of the hottest teams in the nation, beating the Preds twice and Lightning, and have just dominated overall outscoring opponents 36-13 on their current streak - that means they're scoring an average of 4.00 goals per game while allowing just 1.44 on the other end. Their defense has been rock-solid posting two straight shutouts in a row which is rough news for a Wild team who has been scraping by on their offense. They've lost 7 of their last 8 games averaging 2.75 goals per game, but are allowing 4.29 goals per game on the other end which is just unacceptable. The Wild have lost 4 straight games at home and have a worse record on home ice than away from it, while the Blues have performed even better away from home going 16-9-3 this season away from home. St. Louis's streak is bound to come to an end at some point but I really don't see it happening here.
Jordan Binnington should start in net for the Blues and he's been a total phenom this season, as the young gun has posted an 11-1-1 record with a 1.69 GAA and is coming off of a shutout of the Coyotes. He's won 7 straights starts with a 1.43 GAA in those games and has somehow been better at home, posting two straight shutouts on the road and winning his last 5 road starts with a 1.00 GAA in those games. Devin Dubnyk will start in goal for the Wild and he's got a 3.05 GAA in his career against them, and has struggled recently losing 6 of his last 7 starts with a 3.28 GAA in those games. He's lost 3 straight starts at home since the All-Star break with a 4.33 GAA in these games and I like a rolling Blues offense to take advantage tonight.
