Daily Picks 10/24: Jackets To Weather The Hurricanes
The NHL gives us ten games on Thursday so there are lots to choose from. Let’s get into the meat so hopefully later, we can boost that cashflow.
Here are Today’s NHL Picks:
San Jose Sharks @ Montreal Canadiens
- San Jose has won 12 of the last 14 matchups against the Montreal Canadiens spanning the past nine seasons.
This game looks like an up and down, tons of fun type of contest. San Jose bleeds goals and yet Montreal has in the early going as well. Both teams allow well over three goals a game. It does not matter who is in net even. Martin Jones versus Carey Price is the expected matchup. According to Statschecker, San Jose games have hit the over in five of their last six contests. Meanwhile, Montreal has seen the over connect during six of nine games with one push. Both teams have scary good top-six units at even-strength. San Jose’s goal scoring has started to rise over the past five contests to over three a game. It is more what we are accustomed to seeing. Montreal is still over three goals a game both for and against. The over is an easy way to go here.
1u – Over 6.5 Total Goals @ +114
Carolina Hurricanes @ Columbus Blue Jackets
- Columbus has played way better than anyone expected with four wins on the young season and Joonas Korpisalo is 4-2-1 early on as well.
Columbus has been fun to watch as far as how they have compensated for all their free-agent losses. The Blue Jackets have managed to take three of the past four meetings against Carolina! All four of those games featured the under hitting the 6.5 threshold. In terms of active over/under, that went 0-3-1 overall. Goaltending has been good enough by both teams, but Columbus has seen its goaltending fortunes improve while Carolina’s has declined. Columbus generates enough chances to punch a few goals in and that may just be enough.
1u - Columbus Blue Jackets ML @ -105
1u – Under 6.5 Total Goals @ -192
Minnesota Wild @ Nashville Predators
- Nashville keeps on finding ways to beat Minnesota and they were already successful in one matchup earlier in the month.
These teams historically play to the under and especially last year. Statschecker noted that the over hit in the last game which bucked a trend where four straight unders connected. Nashville may also get Filip Forsberg back (lower body, concussion symptoms). Nashville already leads the league in goals with (38). That does not include goals in the shootout. The top-six for the Predators has even rediscovered the power-play. Yes, they are ranked only 14th but that is the top-ten or better for any other hockey team. This game expects to see some wide-open moments. That should see this game go over.
1u - Over 5.5 Total Goals @ -133
1u - Nashville Predators -1.5 goals @ +145
Florida Panthers @ Calgary Flames
- The over has gone 2-1-1 over the previous four meetings between Calgary and Florida, with Calgary projections suggesting a bounce back for the Flames.
This game pits a Calgary team that will give up goals against a team that also yields a good deal of goals. Florida yields 3.67 goals per game while Calgary allows over three goals per contest at home this year. Even with some of the injuries, there is quite a bit of firepower. Keep an eye on Calgary with Johnny Gaudreau, who is ill. If he goes, value is high here with the number for the over. Regardless, goals are just expected to come given the amount of scoring chances both teams give up and create. Florida is 5-3-1 when it comes the over connecting this season. Take the over and if pressed, Florida at +1.5 goals may be a worthwhile choice on Thursday night.
1u – Over 6.5 Total Goals @ +150
