Daily Picks 11/05: Ride With The Jets
The NHL roller coaster schedule continues this week with an 11-game Tuesday. Let’s get into our bets!
Here are Today’s NHL Picks:
New Jersey Devils @ Winnipeg Jets
- New Jersey has seen the last five night games all hit the over and has lost nine straight games on Tuesday nights (Statschecker).
New Jersey is almost getting to the level of the Chicago Blackhawks from last season. Remember, Chicago, at one point, hit the over in 22 of 25 games. That included an extraordinary run of 24 of 25 first period overs hitting. It became so crazy that bookies adjusted the over to 2.5 for an opening period which was unprecedented in this era. Now, that will not happen for a while. However, New Jersey has allowed nearly four goals a game on the road this year. Winnipeg carries one of the better winning probabilities on the night (only Toronto is higher on this slate). There is a lot to choose from here (the over and puck line), but our focus will be simply on the Winnipeg moneyline with Connor Hellebuyck starting and Winnipeg’s top six doing a lot of finishing.
1u – Winnipeg Jets ML @ -133
Chicago Blackhawks @ San Jose Sharks
- The over has hit in their last four previous meetings – three of them before the end of 40 minutes of play.
This seems crazy to keep betting against San Jose in different ways, but the sample size grows less and less small with each passing contest. Basically, the Sharks are a goal-scoring bonanza with no real defensive structure. Things break down at the most inopportune times but that is good for bettors out there. The last ten home games on Tuesday night have connected on the over. Both Chicago and San Jose can light up a scoreboard. They did on October 10th in Chicago when the two teams combined for nine goals in a 5-4 San Jose win. Take the over and expect more of the same.
1u – Over 6.5 Total Goals @ +114
St. Louis Blues @ Vancouver Canucks
- Do not adjust your television set! Vancouver does have nine wins already. Vancouver has won three of the previous four meetings including a 4-3 decision in St. Louis just two weeks ago (Statschecker).
Sometimes taking a shot is worth it. The Vancouver Canucks are 4-0-1 at home (the one was the Washington Capitals game). Vancouver gets a pretty friendly number for a team that has started off so well (9-3-1-1). They will likely be without Quinn Hughes but Hughes (knee) dodged a major injury. The Blues are banged up themselves (no Vladimir Tarasenko). The one risk is that St. Louis has won five out of seven without their star forward. St. Louis has been mediocre on the road so far in the early going while Vancouver has surprised many at home (including Florida recently 7-2). Again, the moneyline is friendly enough to pick on this night.
1u – Vancouver Canucks ML @ -120
Ottawa Senators @ New York Islanders
- The New York Islanders have won nine straight games and the over has hit in the five Ottawa Senators games.
This game pits two teams that can score some goals against each other. The over in this series has connected four straight times. Ottawa is a young team that will not be that phased since they scored six times at Madison Square Garden last night. That Rangers game opened up some eyes including the viability of Ottawa’s top line which should be able to cause problems for the New York Islanders as well. That may be enough to force New York into a bit of a frenetic pace of a game. This is much like how Tampa played New York last Friday. The result was a 5-2 win. Take the lower over and cash in.
1u – Over 5.5 Total Goals @ -137
