Daily Picks 11/16: Red Wings Failing To Fly
The NHL has five more games for us to examine on Friday night. Let’s dig in and see what we can pick at tonight!
Here are Today’s NHL Picks:
Ottawa Senators @ Buffalo Sabres
- Buffalo outscored Ottawa 14-4 at home in their two meetings last season. (statschecker).
The Buffalo Sabres have regressed hard losing six straight games and Ottawa comes off a tough, home win against the Philadelphia Flyers last night. They are not rested and it will be interesting to see who they bring back in net for Saturday night against Buffalo. The Senators have gotten into some high-scoring games against their division rivals of late as the over has hit in five consecutive contests. Now, Ottawa is 2-6-1 on the road while Buffalo Is 5-2-2 at home. The Sabres are still allowing a hair less than three goals a game. It just becomes a question of putting it all together for them. Jack Eichel and the Buffalo Sabres stand a good chance of getting well on Saturday night.
1u – Buffalo Sabres -1.5 goals @ +137
New York Rangers @ Florida Panthers
- Last season the Rangers and Panthers hit the over in three meetings and pushed in another. This year, they already played a 6-5 game in extra time.
Also, this is one of the few matchups where both teams are fully rested. Florida must be angry after seeing another third period meltdown. This time it was against the Winnipeg Jets where they yielded three goals in the final 20 minutes to lose 4-3. Then, there was the New York Rangers who were down 8-1 to the Tampa Bay Lightning after just 40 minutes. New York went on to lose by a score of 9-3. The problem becomes when do the goals stop coming in bunches like this? It is a question that must be asked and tonight does not seem like the night. Both teams suffer from horrendous team defences. New York allows 3.83 goals per game on the road and Florida gives up 3.57 goals per contest at home. They are both among the bottom five in shots allowed per 60 also. It is a risk but take the over Saturday night.
1u – Over 6.5 Total Goals @ -129
Detroit Red Wings @ San Jose Sharks
- The Detroit Red Wings have lost eight of their last nine road games with six of them coming by a margin of two or more goals. (statschecker).
Both teams have been in good form of late as Detroit is 3-1-1 In their last five while San Jose has won five games in a row. The Sharks are finally putting things together and with a win tonight can hit the .500 mark at last. It looks like a tough sell but San Jose has scored 22 goals in their last five games while allowing just 14 (that is a winning margin of 1.6 goals per game). Detroit has the league’s worst penalty kill at just over 70% while San Jose has the best at a hair above 90%. The Red Wings give up four goals a game on the road which is also among the highest in the NHL. San Jose allows just 3.1 goals per game at home. There will be goals in this one. Therefore, we recommend the following. One can choose the over at around even money or go with the spread as seen below.
1u – San Jose Sharks -1.5 goals @ +135
