NHL Picks and Parlays: Rangers vs Stars Predictions
The New York Rangers started their season on the road last night in Washington and it wasn’t pretty. They got slammed 5-1 as they allowed three power play goals to the Capitals before being able to find the net for themselves.
For Dallas, it’s their first game of the season as 2021 was a little disappointing for the Stars. They reached the Stanley Cup final in 2020 and then went on to finish fifth in their division with a 23-19-14 season.
Do the Rangers bounce back tonight or do they find themselves down in an 0-2 hole early? Here are two of my favorite plays for the Rangers vs Stars tonight.
Dallas Stars vs New York Rangers Betting Odds
Over 5.5 Goals (-119)
Dating back to last year, the Stars have hit the over five times in their last five games and their last five times on the road as well. When looking at these two teams, and how the Rangers played last night, expect there to be some goals scored tonight.
The Rangers will likely run Igor Shesterkin tonight after Alexandar Georgiev got the start on the road in the season opener last night. Shesterkin has been streaky but he finished last year with a .916 save percentage and a 2.62 goals against average. In his first three starts of the season last year he was a sub .900 save percentage goalie.
For Dallas, they’ll likely run ot Braden Holtby who is pretty far removed from his glory days in Washington. Last season he had an .889 save percentage and a 3.67 goals against average. It was the second year in a row that he gave a sub--.900 save percentage on the year.
So what does that translate to? Goals, and lots of them. The Rangers will be a motivated team especially considering what happened to them last night.
Artemi Panarin anytime goal scorer (+176)
Artemi Panarin has been a great signing by the New York Rangers. In his first year with the team, he put up 32 goals, and last year he had 17 in just 42 games. In 112 career games with New York, he has 49 goals or a pace of .44 goals per game.
He didn’t have a point last night so I would imagine that he would bounce back against this Stars team tonight. Only twice last year did Panarin go back-to-back games without a point. He’ll be much more active tonight.
I also considered going with Mika Zibanajed to score but I don’t like the value nearly as much compared to what you’re getting for “The Bread Man”.
