Oilers vs. Bruins Prediction

Tonight we have a battle of offense (usually) versus defense.

What is wrong with the Oilers in December? The answer is simple: they aren’t scoring like they usually do. Tonight though, we feel it is the night the Oilers break out of their funk and win a game. So far this year, the Oilers haven’t lost back-to-back games all year. Until now, when they lost three in a row for the first time. I guarantee the Oilers are not happy about that, and losing a 4th in a row at home would be unacceptable.

The Oilers have the leading scorer in the NHL with Draisaitl (43 points). He pretty much iced the last meeting scoring two goals late to beat Boston the previous month (5-3), and McDavid led the team with 27 assists. For my money, those two on the Oilers are the best 1-2 combo in the league. The last three losses have all been to the West, so maybe the change tonight to the East will help as well as they are still 9-3 at home, and this is the best power-play team in the league (32.0.)

Boston, on the other hand, is off an overtime loss to the Canucks last night, scoring 1 measly goal (5 straight unders). They are a team that hasn’t been able to score and has one big weapon in Marchand who, if shut down, pretty much shuts down this offense. Hence why they only have 10 goals in their last five games. Boston is also missing a few guys for non-Covid illness tonight, leaving them short-handed against a team you don’t want to play short-handed, and the Oilers goalie Koskinen is 12-4 this year.

Throw in the fact the Bruins are 1-5 last 6 back to back and 3-9 last 12 versus the Oilers. We aren’t seeing why the Oilers don’t end their losing streak tonight. All trends point towards the Oilers tonight, which is a good sign for us.

Look for the 1-2 punch to deliver and the Oilers offense to break out in a 4-2 5-2 type game, and the Oilers win for us tonight.
