Pittsburgh Penguins vs St. Louis Blues Prediction

We return to the ice on Wednesday night for a battle between the St Louis Blues and the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Penguins enter play tonight, playing to an overall record of 18-8-5, good for fourth place in the metropolitan, while the Blues come into this matchup supporting an overall record of 19-9-5, which is good for second play in the Central Conference.

The Penguins and the Blues both come into this game playing good hockey as of late and really have played well all season overall. The Penguins will look to stay hot on home ice and win their fifth straight home game in front of the Pittsburgh faithful. The Blues will have other ideas on their minds and look to win their third game in a row overall. The Blues were happy to welcome back a healthy Vladimir Tarasenko to their lineup this season, who has been outstanding for the Blues leading them in both goals and points. Tarasenko has put up fourteen goals this season to go with nineteen helpers to lead the Blues to second in their division.

The star for the Penguins this season so far scoring the puck has not been who you may expect in Sidney Crosby but the twenty-seven-year-old left-winger in Jake Guentzel. Guenztel comes into this game, leading the Penguins in goals with sixteen, which is good for eleventh in the NHL this season. The Pens will look to keep it rolling and get more production from Gentzel and company in tonight's game.

The play I am turning to on the ice tonight will be to back the Pittsburgh Penguins at home for several reasons. The first reason is the Penguins have been a great home team this season, and they are finding their groove at the moment on home ice. I think the way they have played as of late in Pittsburgh makes this a spot where you can not fade the Penguins.

The second reason is this may be a game that the Blues look over a little bit because, after this game, they will return home to St Louis to play five games in a row at home. Typically when you see this, the team will look over this kind of game and think ahead to an extended home trip after being on the road for a couple of games.

I think that the Penguins match up very well with the Blues and are the better defensive team in this game tonight as they have shown to be a very good defensive bunch all season. The Penguins are currently allowing 2.48 goals per game while the Blues are giving up 2.70. The back end of the defense for the Penguins has been outstanding all season long, and I expect this to be the case once against tonight. I will ride the home team on the money line, who I believe will stay hot and cash us in another ticket.
