The San Jose Sharks (20-17-2) will host the Los Angeles Kings on Monday to conclude a four-game homestand. After winning the first of the four, a 3-2 regulation victory over the Red Wings, San Jose dropped two straight to the Rangers and Penguins The Sharks currently hold the second wildcard spot in the Western Conference, but they only lead the Flames, who have five games in hand, by two points. This is a massive spot for San Jose—they need the two points to maintain their positioning in the playoff race.

Meanwhile, the Kings (20-13-5) have been on an absolute tear as of late. They have won six of their last seven, including their last four, to catapult them into second place in the Pacific division. Their four-game win streak includes victories over the Rangers and Penguins, both of whom are in the NHL's top 10 in terms of points percentage. Far more impressive than the wins themselves, however, was how the Kings obtained them. Over the course of their last four games, LA has generated a whopping 20.69 expected goals for while only conceding 10.02 expected goals against. In other words, despite facing solid competition, they have been dominating their opponents.

The Kings will hold a sizeable advantage in goal against the Sharks. Jonathan Quick is likely to start for LA, and he has had an excellent year—his 0.798 goals saved above expected per 60 minutes rank second in the NHL amongst all starters. Adin Hill will man the other net, and his numbers have been far less spectacular. Indeed, he has allowed 4.5 more goals than expected this season.

These teams are only separated by three points in the standings, but make no mistake—the Kings are playing at a much higher level at the moment. Given that this is the NHL, that's no guarantee of anything, but this line simply isn't giving LA enough credit for their recent form of play. Bet the Kings down to -130 on the moneyline.
