New Jersey Devils vs. Dallas Stars Prediction

Dallas enters the game on a 3 game winning streak, all on the road. The Stars are 5th in the Central Division, with a record of 21-16-2 for 44 points. Dallas is tied with Calgary for the last Wild Card spot in the West, but the Flames have 2 games in hand. Dallas has a road record of 7-12-1 this season. The Stars are coming off a 3-1 win against the Flyers in Philadelphia last night. Dallas is led by Joe Pavelski, who is having a solid season, his 43 points and 27 assists both lead the team.

The Devils are currently 6th in the Metropolitan Division with a record of 15-20-5 for 35 points. The Devils have a home record of 10-9-3. New Jersey is not a team that will make the playoffs this year so the rest of the season will be focused on developing their young players. Their best young player is 2019 1st overall pick, Jack Hughes. Despite missing 17 games this season Jack has 23 points on 10 goals and 13 assists. The Devils are coming off a 3-2 home loss to the LA Kings on Sunday.

As mentioned, Dallas is on a back to back but they are also playing their third game in four nights and fifth in eight. The Stars are also on the last game of an already successful four-game Eastern trip as they have won all three previous games. On the season, the Stars are averaging 2.25 goals per game on the road which is 4th least. They have, however, picked up the scoring on this trip as they have scored 13 goals in the three games. The Stars are allowing 3.5 goals per game on the road this season which is the 8th most. On this trip, Dallas has given up 4 goals to each Buffalo and Detroit, not necessarily great offensive teams.

The Devils are a much better home team this year where they average 3.18 goals per game. Their goals against is 2.95 per game which is not great. New Jersey has had goaltending issues this season as well, neither of their active goaltenders have a save percentage above .897. The NHL is about situations and spots. With Dallas ending a what already is a successful road trip, I think New Jersey can catch them by surprise and steal a home win tonight.
