The Carolina Hurricanes and Boston Bruins clash tonight in Beantown. Will the Hurricanes end their streak in Boston?
ANALYSIS

Carolina Hurricanes vs Boston Bruins Prediction: Can the Canes End Their Skid in the Garden?

The Carolina Hurricanes enter tonight’s contest in Boston on a two-game losing streak after suffering road losses to Toronto and Ottawa earlier this week. On the season, the Canes have a record of 31-10-3 for 65 points, which is first in the Metropolitan Division. Carolina is led offensively by Sebastian Aho, who leads the team with 19 goals, 27 assists and 46 points. The Hurricanes are one of the deepest teams in the league, and can roll all four lines which provides matchup nightmares for their opponents. The Bruins are coming off a 4-2 home loss to Pittsburgh on Tuesday night, a game that saw them blow a 2-0 first period lead. To add injury to insult, the Bruins lost forward Patrice Bergeron to an upper body injury, and Forward Brad Marchand was suspended six games for an altercation with Penguins Goaltender Tristan Jarry. These are 2 big offensive threats lost for the Bruins. On the season, Boston has a record of 26-15-3 for 55 points which is 4th in the Atlantic.  The Bruins have a seven point lead on Detroit for the last wild card spot in the East.

Carolina Hurricanes vs Boston Bruins Prediction

On the road this season, the Canes have a record of 15-6-2. They are averaging a 7th best 3.30 goals per game and allowing 2.57 goals per game, which is third least. Carolina’s road power play is middle of pack at 19% but they are 3rd in the NHL with 58 five on five goals. The Canes also have the 2nd best road PK at 87.5%.

This matches up against a Boston home power play that is second in the league at 30%, but as mentioned, they are missing two key offensive pieces. The Bruins are averaging 2.92 goals per game at home, which is 10th least and they are giving up 2.96 goals per game at home which is 14th most. Antii Raanta got the start in Ottawa, so expect Freddy Andersen to go for the Canes tonight. Freddy has a 14-3 lifetime record vs Boston with a 2.26 GAA and a .933 save %. These teams have met twice this season resulting in 2 Carolina wins, 3-0 and 7-1. Although there could be a revenge factor for Boston, with that 7-1 loss coming at home, I don’t see them being able to keep up with a Canes team that has lost 3 games in a row only once this season. I’ll lay the -1 and hope for a 2 goal win tonight for Carolina.
