St. Louis Blues vs New Jersey Devils Prediction: Expect Goals Early

Now I am from the Lou but don’t hold it against me as bias, I have very specific rules regarding betting my own teams.

1)    Never fade them (not saying always back them but fading them is just simply bad juju)

2)    That’s it

If you do not force action on them when you shouldn’t, you are fine. A handicapper should know his own teams better than any other in my opinion. I love this game tonight.

St. Louis Blues vs New Jersey Devils Prediction

The St. Louis Blues once again look like Stanley Cup contenders coming out of the Western Conference. This team is quite like the one that won the cup back in 2018 if not better, especially in regards offensive prowess. It goes without saying that Jordan Binnington is no longer the brick-wall he was two seasons ago, but I think a Ville Husso will be the number one netminder here shortly.

With that said, they still must get to the playoffs first, preferably with good seeding as they would like to avoid running into a team like Colorado right out of the gate. They are in one of the most competitive and tight divisions in Hockey with Minnesota, Nashville, and themselves all within three points of the second spot in the Central Division.

There is plenty of time to move up in the standings and I am not necessarily saying Colorado is safe in the lead either; what I am saying is the teams who want to make a run know that they cannot let off the gas now.

A team that has experience and great veteran leadership like St. Louis knows that these types of matchups must be exploited; get the points wherever you can. Now obviously -240 on the money line is far too juicy for my liking, however, there are a few other great angles on this game for us to attack.

The Devils fall into the category of ‘’unable to stop a nosebleed,’’ in terms of giving up goals. They are giving up 3.53 GPG on the season and 3.73 GPG on the road this season. With their undisputed number one netminder Mackenzie Blackwood out, Jon Gillies finds himself between the pipes tonight.

They are just 6-15-2 on the road this season with half of those wins coming under Blackwood. Gillies has been less than impressive this season and I expect more of the same from him tonight.

New Jersey has either scored or conceded a goal in the first 10 minutes in 16 of their last 17 games and lead the league in the category hitting just over 70% on the season. They are also 8-2 across their L10 1P o1.5’s with St. Louis right behind them at 7-3 L10.

The Blues are 17-5-2 at home this season. They are putting up a lovely 3.75 GPG at home and sporting a +33 goal differential. I expect them to pounce on the opportunity here to make up for a disappointing home loss heading into the break and expect nothing less than them to walk away with their two points.

I’m excited for this one tonight. Best of luck to those who tail and as always, let's rip!
