Seattle Kraken vs. Toronto Maple Leafs Prediction

The Toronto Maple Leafs travel to the Emerald City to face-off against the expansion Seattle Kraken at the Climate Pledge Arena. The Leafs are coming off a 3-2 loss in Vancouver on Saturday night. That game saw Toronto fire 53 shots on net, as goaltender Thatcher Demko stood on his head and held Toronto at bay. This is the final game of a short 3 game road trip for the Leafs. Toronto has lost the first two games of the trip.

On the road this season, the Leafs are averaging 3.57 goals per game, which is 3rd in the league, and 35.3 shots per game, which is 2nd in the league. Their road power play is also clicking on the road as their 26.6% conversion rate is 4th best in the league. Five on five, the Leafs are doing just as much damage as their 60 goals on the road is 3rd in the league, and their 235 high danger scoring chances is also ranked 3rd in the league.

The Seattle Kraken are home after a 4-3 road win against the Ducks on Friday night. Seattle has had a tough time keeping the puck out of their net this season, which can be attributed to their poor goaltending. Both Philipp Grubhauer and Chris Driedger have goals against averages above 3 and save percentages under .900. Not a good recipe for winning games.

At home this season the Kraken are averaging 3.69 goals against which is 3rd most in the league, while only giving up 29 shots per game. Seattle's home penalty kill is 12th worst at 78.9%. Shifting to five on five numbers at home is not much better. The Kraken have given up 63 goals which is 2nd most in the league but they have only given up 178 high danger scoring chances which is the 8th least. I don't see this as a game in which Seattle goaltending can limit goals as the Leafs will be hungry to finish their trio with a win and pepper Grubauer or Driedger, whoever gets the nod in net. Fade the Kraken and their goaltending tonight.
