With Vitek Vaneck still on the IR, Ilya Samsonov gets the start in net for Washington tonight. Samsonov has a 2.90 GAA on the road, and 15 of his last 19 games have ended with at least six goals. Predators goalie, Juuse Saros, has an impressive 2.10 GAA at home, but 10 of his last 13 games have totaled a minimum of six goals. Both of these goalies started when these teams played each other back in December: Saros gave up 4 GA, and Samsonov recorded 3 GA.
Nashville center, Nick Cousins, has been ruled out for tonight after enduring an injury in the Predators’ last game against the Jets. Cousins aside, the Predators are working with a full roster and shouldn't have any trouble filling his position. The Capitals are still without TJ Oshie, but they've now had over a month to adjust to his absence on the ice.
Both teams have recently experienced some trouble limiting their opponents' goals, but neither has struggled to score. Over their last five games, the Caps have scored an average of 3.4 goals per game, but allowed opponents an average of 3.8.
The Predators are averaging 3.1 goals and 3.0 goals against in their five most recent games. Because of this, I’m fairly confident that neither goalie will escape their opponent’s offense without surrendering at least a couple of goals. In the last ten games between the Capitals and Predators, the average score was 7.70 goals. The over is only set at six tonight, and it's worth a shot at +100 based on how these teams have been playing.
