Columbus Blue Jackets vs. Buffalo Sabres Prediction: Expect Both Sides to Bury the Biscuits

Now normally, throughout the course of the NHL season, there are good spots every day. But the real breadwinners are Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays as they have the most games scheduled. Thanks to the NHL not sending players to the Olympics this year, the schedule was accelerated due to them no longer needing the scheduled break, so we actually have wonderful slates for the next eight days and I am ecstatic.

Columbus Blue Jackets vs. Buffalo Sabres Prediction

There are two games I am looking to attack here tonight so with that said, lets dive into it. I am a big fan of the late-night game and that is what my second article will be on, so don’t miss it. This game starts much sooner though so I want to get this one out first.

We are heading to Ohio for what should be a derby as the Buffalo Sabres clash with Columbus Blue Jackets. The last five meetings between these squads have flown over. This season, both squads are among the best when it comes to providing advantageous matchups for overs; neither have exceptional netminders and play poor defense.

Neither team is going with their number one netminders tonight as Buffalo sends out Craig Anderson and Columbus sends out J-F. Berube. Berube has not started an NHL game since 2018 and his numbers are unimpressive; he holds a 3.39 GAA and a .894 SV%, both of which got progressively worse throughout his initial three-year stint in the league.

We have been on multiple games with the Columbus Blue Jackets this month and they have done right by us all season long. They are not a bad squad by any means, but they cannot stop a nosebleed. They play with good pace and I expect them to play well today but they still will give Buffalo plenty of chances to net a few.

CBJ has the third most High Danger Scoring Chances Against in standard 5 a side play with 494 and Buffalo comes in a sixth with 486. We care about this because it not only tells us that they are playing poor defensively and will undoubtedly force some turnovers that will generate excellent looks; it tells us these teams are playing with pace.

Neither squad is among the elite tier of clubs and both tend to be chasing in a good majority of their games so they play with pace and are pushing the puck down ice to create looks; I love when one squad in a matchup is playing this way so when both are I really get excited. This game should be played freely and fast, a lot of breaks the other way.

CBJ is 9-1 L10 GIFT’s and the second-best team for the category in the league hitting north of 68% on the season; Buffalo is 7-3 across their L10 and still hitting a solid 63% on the season which we love. CBJ Is also the best team in the league for first period o1.5’s hitting over 66% on the season.

Here is how I am attacking this game. As always, best of luck to those who tail! We ride.
