Vancouver Canucks vs New Jersey Devils Prediction: Bring on the Goals

The Vancouver Canucks enter this game on a back to back after soundly defeating the New York Rangers, 5-2 at Madison Square Garden last night. Thatcher Demko backstopped the Nucks to an impressive road win, as he registered 31 saves.

Vancouver Canucks vs New Jersey Devils Prediction

The Canucks have found their groove lately, as they are winners of three in a row, and eight of their last 12. Vancouver is making a push for the playoffs as they are just three points behind Dallas for the final Wild Card spot. Center Elias Pettersson has come to life recently as he has four goals in his last four games, and has registered 12 shots on goal in the span. Elias has struggled to get going all season, this production can be a boost to this dangerous Canucks team down the stretch.

The Devils will not make the playoffs this season, but they do have some talented, young pieces, especially on offense. Despite missing 20 games, Jack Hughes is having a great offensive season. In 32 games, Hughes has registered 15 goals, 21 assists for 36 points. Offensive minded Defensemen Dougie Hamilton recently returned from injury and has sparked this already dangerous Devils offense. Let's take a look at how these teams have fared recently. Over the last 10 games, the Canucks are averaging 4.4 goals per game while allowing 2.9 goals against and their power play is clicking at 25%. On the road this season, the Canucks are averaging 2.79 goals per game and 2.93 goals against. The Canucks road Power Play is middle of the pack at 19.8% and their Penalty Kill is 72%, 3rd worst in the league. Overs are 16-12 in road games for the Canucks. With Demko starting last night, look for Jaroslav Halak to get the start tonight. While Halak is a capable goalie, he is a big drop off from Demko.

Over the last 10 games, the Devils are averaging 3.6 goals per game and allowing 4.3 goals against. Their power play is 19% during that span and their Penalty Kill 80.8%. At home this season, New Jersey averages 2.96 goals per game and allows 3.35 goals per game. Their home power play is 15th at 22.5% and their home Penalty Kill is 13th at 83.1%. Overs are 12-12 in Devils home games this season. Given the recent offensive output from both teams, I think we see plenty of goals tonight at the Rock.
