Vancouver Canucks vs New York Islanders Prediction: An Enticing Plus-Money Play

The Vancouver Canucks play their third game of a four-game Eastern Conference road trip against the New York Islanders. The Canucks are coming off a 7-2 loss to the New Jersey Devils, and the Islanders are recovering from a 5-4 loss to the Colorado Avalanche. These teams faced each other back in February in Vancouver, and the Islanders walked away with a 6-3 win.

Bet $10, Win $200 If the Canucks Score

Four of the last five Isles games have gone over, as have six straight Canucks games. Recently, both teams have been scoring and allowing more goals than average. In their last ten games, Vancouver has scored an average of 4.10 goals and allowed an average of 3.60 goals. New York has scored an average of 2.90 goals and allowed an average of 3.20 goals. Similarly, New York has scored an average of 2.90 and allowed 3.60 in their last ten games.

The Islanders have been without centerman, Mathew Barzal, and defenseman, Zdeno Chára, but have still managed to produce goals in their two most recent games in their absence. While Vancouver has yet to announce a starting goalie, their two options are starter Thatcher Demko or backup goalie Jaroslav Halak. Halak made the initial start against the Islanders a few weeks ago but was quickly replaced after he allowed five goals in the first 16 minutes of play. The former, Demko, is a hit or miss—especially when playing on the road. Islanders likely starter, Ilya Sorokin, has been very impressive this season, but tonight he must face a hot Canucks team looking to avenge their recent loss.

While I think the money line is rightfully set at a PK, I do think the over at 5.5 is a bit low given how these teams have been playing. To make this play more enticing, it’s available at +105 on Caesars.
