Toronto Maple Leafs vs Columbus Blue Jackets Prediction: Make Sure You Back This Play on the Total
Toronto is no longer is a team I trust when it comes to backing them as a side; I have tried to give them a chance, but they have continuously proven the same thing and that is they will not consistently be a dominant team in the league. Time and time again they have played down to the level of their competition and gotten beat.
I really wanted to believe in the narrative that they were finally looking to get things together here in the back half of the season and put themselves in an excellent spot to make a run at the cup, but they have shown nothing of the sort.
They are more than capable of scoring and have seemed to change their philosophy; it seems as though they realized the defensive flaws and netminder situation was not cutting it, so they began trying to outpace teams. Until they change that, I will only be looking for totals in their games and this one is a great spot.
Columbus beat Toronto in Toronto last time these teams met just a week or so ago and this one should see plenty of fireworks as well. Both squads are playing with a lot of pace and are both scoring and conceding a really absurd amount of goals; it seems unattainable but they have proven otherwise.

Since February began….
Toronto Maple Leaf’s games overall are averaging about 7.78 goals and that number is still a flat average of 7.00 taking out the 17-goal game in Detroit. Columbus Blue Jackets games are averaging 7.38 goals since February began. Tonight, they are in Columbus where the over is 20-8-1 in CBJ home games this season. The over is 18-10 in road games for Toronto but more specifically 8-2 across their L10 and 4-1 L5.
Backup netminder Peter Mrazek will be between the pipes for Toronto and he sports a 3.22 GAA with a sub .900 save percentage this year; he allowed five goals on 31 shots against a not-so-powerful Buffalo team last week and the defense played awful. Nothing says they have fixed either of these two issues yet and I don’t believe Columbus is going to let them.
Columbus will bury a few, they are netting a solid 3.38 GF/G at home this season but as I said earlier, they will give them up as well. They are conceding 3.45 GPG at home this season ranking them among the bottom ten teams in the league defensively and Elvis Merzikins is in net for them. Elvis is sporting a 3.42 GAA this season and is 1-1-2 since returning from injury a week ago; this is his third start in four nights.
As always, best of luck to those who tail.
