Carolina Hurricanes vs. Washington Capitals Prediction: Expect Goals Tonight
Carolina Hurricanes vs. Washington Capitals Prediction: Expect Goals Tonight
The Washington Capitals have been playing incredibly well lately, having won three in a row, and six of their last seven games. Tonight, they travel to Carolina to face the #3 ranked Hurricanes who are an impressive 23-4-2 when playing at home this season. These teams have already played each other twice this season— the Capitals won both. While there are certainly convincing arguments to be made about either team, I would rather be on the over.

Carolina Hurricanes vs. Washington Capitals Prediction
It’s difficult to choose a side here. Granted, both teams played last night, and both had to make the trip from their respective locations to Carolina in fewer than 24 hours. The Capitals have a bit of an offensive edge on the Canes, but Ilya Samsonov is too much of a liability here for me to feel completely comfortable backing the Caps. Samsonov has earned a 3.54 GA in his ten most recent starts, so there’s no question that the Hurricanes pose a considerable threat to Washington’s recent success. Also, Carolina has won seven straight home games. To the Canes advantage, Antii Raanta holds a 1.62 GAA at home over his eight starts in 2022, and the Hurricanes have gone 7-1-0 in these. Raanta is capable of making a solid start, but he has exposed his weaknesses in some recent games, which I expect Washington to take advantage of.
The Capitals have scored an average of 3.60 goals per game and the Canes have scored an average of 2.40 in their ten most recent games. Assuming Washington is able to score on Raanta, the Hurricanes should respond. Ideally, I’m expecting Carolina to play more of an offensively-minded game than they have as of late. Seven straight Capitals games have gone over six, so I expect this one to follow suit.
